NEWPORT-In celebration of Saturday's celebration of Cosby Academy's 100th birthday, today's Plain Talk features a special ten-page section featuring the history, photos, and feature stories pertaining to the school.

Established by the East Tennessee Baptist Association in 1913, the Academy operated as a private school until its purchase by the Cocke County Board of Education in 1934. At that time, it became Cosby School and served children in the southern portion of Cocke County in grades 1-12 for several decades before adding kindergarten classes in the 1970s.

After operating as a K-12 school for approximately 30 years, Cosby School was divided into Cosby Elementary and Cosby High Schools in the early part of the 21st century.
