NEWPORT-Tommy Costner said he shot about six .32-caliber rounds at a vehicle that carried two or three white males who had just broken into his residence, on Tuesday, April 9, in the afternoon, the Cocke County Sheriff's Department reported.

Costner, of Arrowhead Road, in Newport, said he had been asleep in his bedroom when he heard someone knocking on the side door of his residence at about 2:30 p.m., Deputy Sheriff Danny Hartsell reported.

He said the suspects then moved to the front door and beat on it.

Costner said he had gotten out of bed and was walking through the living room, to the front door, when the suspects started beating on the side door again, the report stated.
