PARROTTSVILLE-A Newport resident was arrested on Happy Hollow Road on Thursday, March 21 and charged with possession of prescription pills, DUI, and assault on an officer, the Cocke County Sheriff's Department reported.

Charles Edward Mason Jr., 36, of 1255 Golf Course Road, in Newport was found sitting inside a Jeep owned by Misty Wills, located at her residence at 2908 Happy Hollow Road, in Parrottsville, at 7 p.m.

Mason allegedly was leaning down and had his hands under the dash of the Jeep pulling on some wires, Det. Kevin Benton reported. When asked what he was doing, Mason allegedly said he "was trying to get out of there", the report stated.

Mason, who allegedly had a strong odor of alcohol about his person, became angry, started cursing Det. Benton, called him names, and yelled at the top of his voice in view of the public, causing a disturbance.
