County Elementary tournament title on Saturday with a 37-25 win over Edgemont.
The Lady Panthers had won four straight titles and were looking to keep the momentum rolling, but a huge second half from the Lady Parrotts was enough to end the streak. Madison Atha and Harmony Jenkins each had 10 points in the victory to lead Parrottsville. "Our girls challenged themselves and they worked their tails off each and every day," Parrottsville head coach Boddie Bible said. "They came out tonight and executed very well." While the first half was solid, it was the second half when the Lady Parrotts pulled away. After leading 16-11 at the half, they pushed the advantage to eight by the end of the third. Edgemont cut the lead to six early in the fourth but that was as close as they would get. The Lady Parrotts then went on an 11-0 run capped off by a basket by Atha that stretched the lead to 17. "At halftime we told them that the first three minutes (of the third quarter) are going to determine the outcome," Bible said. "Champions work harder and boy did they ever step up. They came out and never let the foot off the hammer." For the full story, see the February 19th edition of the Newport Plain Talk. Copyright © 2013, The Newport Plain Talk |
