NEWPORT-The Newport Board of Education renewed the contract of School Director Steve Thompson for another year during their meeting Monday at Newport Grammar School

The board's unanimous approval came after a motion by Charlotte Mims, seconded by Linda Powell.

In other action, the board named the following members to a committee to develop the 2013-2014 school calendar: Jan Brooks-Sneed (board member), Brooke Boggs, Karen Chambers, John Mitrik, Clint Provencal, and Robin Ullon (teachers), Carlene Jones and Steve Thompson (administration), Rob Mathis and Lindsay Zugay (parents), Brandi Shoemaker (para-professional) and Wendy Taylor (parent/substitute).

They also approved several travel requests, fundraisers, and first readings on policy updates.
