PIGEON FORGE-It’s not always easy to find positives after a tough loss.

That’s exactly what the Newport Grammar Lady Warriors will be looking to though, despite a 54-44 defeat to Chuckey-Doak Middle School in the TMSAA Class AA East sectional title on Saturday.

The Lady Warriors were only the second girl’s team in school history to make an appearance in the championship game. The 2005-06 was the only other squad to advance to the title game and completed a perfect season by winning the championship.

“I’m proud of them. I told them in there in the locker room. I said you’re the second girls team in (Newport) Grammar history to ever do this,” Newport Grammar head coach Steve Souder said. “That’s saying a lot because Grammar obviously has high expectations and there are a lot of great athletes that come through that school.”

“More importantly than all of this, they’re ladies. I love how they handle themselves and carry themselves on and off the court. That’s the most rewarding part of it,” Souder said.
