NEWPORT-The Cocke County Fighting Cocks broke a three game losing skid as they earned a solid 80-63 win over South Doyle on Friday.

After the Cherokees had cut the lead to just eight midway through the fourth quarter, Cocke County ended the game on a 13-4 run to close out the win.

Dylan Dockery had an outstanding performance for the Fighting Cocks, leading the way with 25 points. Senior Jacob White added 14 points in the victory. Hunter Suggs also finished in double figures with 13.

“We had lost three in a row in the last seconds of the game. The kids responded well,” Cocke County head coach Ray Evans said. “A lot of teams, you lose three in a row on last second shots or stuff like that, and they kind of put their heads down and drag.”

“I’ve tried to keep it upbeat in practice and told them to just keep believing in each other and believe in what God’s course for us is, and good things are going to happen. Something special’s going to happen and I truly believe that.”
