NEWPORT—While Cocke County managed to avoid severe storms on Wednesday, many areas of the county were hit with minor flooding.

Many streams were out of banks and roads in several low lying areas, typically prone to flooding, we covered by Wednesday's rain. The National Weather Service in Morristown reports up to three inches of rain fell in some area. The NWS has extended a flooding warning for the Pigeon River. At 7 p.m. Wednesday, the river was reported at 10.1 feet, with flood stage at 8 feet. The river was expected to crest this morning at 11.5 feet and is predicted to fall below flood stage by Friday evening.
