(Last modified: 2013-01-22 08:13:34) Source: The Newport Plain Talk NEWPORT-A man in a vehicle wreck on Saturday, Jan. 19, was arrested and charged with DUI, possession of a handgun while under the influence, possession of Schedule 3 and 4 drugs, and possession of drug paraphernalia, K9 Deputy Sheriff Chris Gregg reported. John Wayne Barnes, 37, of 209 Brookfield Drive, in Newport, was in a vehicle traveling on Indian Camp Road when, around 5:15 p.m., his vehicle left a straightaway section of the road and traveled about 75 feet before striking and cutting down a power pole, the report stated. Barnes was slurring his speech and had trouble with his fine motor skills; he performed poorly on tasks given to him, according to the report.
