Mother Nature had other plans in store for the local prep basketball schedule this past week, causing numerous schedule changes.

Cocke County High School had its doubleheader on Tuesday at Cherokee rained out. Also it’s homecoming doubleheader against Morristown West - which featured a showdown for first place in District 2-AAA in the girls’ game, was postponed due to snowy conditions which occurred on Thursday.

The doubleheader with Morristown West has been rescheduled for January 28. No makeup date has been slated for the Cherokee road games. No date for a possible homecoming at Cocke County has been given.

The Tuesday night game was one of two District 2-AAA games lost to weather as Morristown East hosted Seymour and Jefferson County hosted South Doyle. Friday night’s game was one of two lost to the weather. Cherokee still traveled to Seymour and Sevier County hosted Jefferson County.

Cosby High School lost a trio of games due to the weather. Tuesday’s road game at Jellico was rained out. Thursday’s road game against Claiborne High School was snowed out, with a makeup date slated for January 31.

Their Friday night District 2-A homecoming battle with Washburn was also postponed due to the
snowy conditions. That game will be made up on Monday, January 21st with varsity game time of 4 p.m.

Cosby High homecoming festivities will be postponed until the school’s February 1 home date with Jellico High School.

Newport Grammar School also lost a pair of dates, with their Tuesday game against Northview rained out and Thursday’s game at Eagleton also postponed. The game against Northview has been scheduled for Thursday, January 24.

Elementary basketball action also took a hit on Thursday night, with the entire slate of games postponed. Those games will be made up during the week of February 4.
