(Last modified: 2012-12-29 22:28:48) Source: The Newport Plain Talk The Cocke County High School Fighting Cocks took their second Midway Christmas Classic championship with a 65-43 win over Anderson County High School in Roane County on Saturday night.
CCHS (8-7) won their three games en route to claiming the title by an average of 18.6 points per game. Cocke County won the event in 2009 in their previous appearance in the field. Lady Red fall at Ladies' Classic Earlier in the afternoon, the CCHS Lady Red dropped their third game at the 2012 LandAir Ladies' Classic. Cocke County (8-8) dropped a 54-48 decision to Holy Name School (Ohio) in a consolation game in the 2012 event. CCHS forced Holy Name into 26 turnovers, but was only able to generate 13 points off of those miscues. Mika Wester dropped in 19 points in the loss for the Lady Red. CCHS will return to action on Friday night, January 4 as they host Seymour High School in District 2-AAA play. Tipoff of varsity action is set for 6:30 p.m. Copyright © 2013, The Newport Plain Talk |
