GREENEVILLE-A bevy of turnovers thwarted the Lady Red's attempt at cracking the win column in the 2012 version of the LandAir Ladies' Classic on Thursday morning.

Cocke County committed 23 turnovers, which led to 18 points by their opponent, in a 42-34 loss to Shelbyville Central High School in a consolation bracket game. The loss drops Cocke County back to the .500 mark with a 7-7 record.

As a result of the loss, CCHS will play District 2-AAA foe Morristown East in a loser's bracket elimination game at 10 a.m. on Friday morning. The two teams last met on December 4, with the Lady Red taking the win at Morristown East.

Morristown East lost to CAK on Wednesday and followed up with a loss earlier this morning to West Greene.

Shelbyville Central advances to play West Greene at 1 p.m. on Friday.

CCHS Boys Earn Win at Midway Classic: The Fighting Cocks got back into the win column with a 63-53 win over Monterey in the opening round of the Midway Christmas Classic in Roane County on Thursday.

Cocke County, which improved its record to 6-7 with the win, will continue play in the tournament on Friday and Saturday.
