Morristown West started the first upset bid with a surprising 55-45 win over mid-state power Mt. Juliet High School in the tournament's second game. Meanwhile, Greeneville High School scored a 49-39 win over Holy Name (Ohio). That game was delayed as Holy Name arrived to the tournament late, after dealing with weather-related travel issues after departing Cleveland at 5 a.m. on Wednesday morning. In other games, CAK defeated District 2-AAA's Morristown East by a 71-33 score. CAK opened the game on an 18-2 run to blow by the Lady Hurricanes, who qualified for the state tournament last year. 2008 Classic champion Wilson Central cruised past West Greene 72-33 in their game. North Greene provided Rockcastle High (Kentucky) with a scare, before the Lady Rockets pulled away in the waning minutes of the fourth quarter with a 48-39 win over the District 1-A Lady Huskies. Another pair of local teams proved victorious in the late games. South Greene defeated Shelbyville 49-43 and Chuckey-Doak topped Charlotte Christian 64-48.
