A 35-year-old mother was killed and five people were injured, some critically, after a head-on collision in the eastbound lanes of I-40 just east of the Newport 435 mile marker.

Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Tyler Hall identified the victim as Kristy Jones of Toledo, Ohio. She was driving a 2006 Dodge caravan east on a vacation with the family.

Her van carrying a man and three children was struck head-on by the driver of a 2007 Mercury Mountaineer, and Trooper Hall reported that this driver was in the wrong lanes.

Dan Williams, 39, of 227 Lower Bogard Road, was identified as the driver of the black SUV and he was critically injured and may face charges after the investigation is complete.
