After much discussion, TSSAA reclassification has come and passed with little changes for both Cosby and Cocke County High School.

The TSSAA Board of Control voted to approve district alignment on Thursday during their quarterly meeting, wrapping up a near five-month process to place teams in their respective districts.

While Cocke County High School will remain in an unchanged District 2-AAA, Cosby High School will see some changes applied to the current District 2-A landscape.

District 2-A increases from the current four TSSAA member schools to seven schools. Berean Christian School, L&N STEM Academy and Tennessee School for the Deaf will now join the district. South Greene, which was reportedly in the mix to join the district after their drop to Class A, was placed in District 1-A.

The three new schools join the district with limited varsity athletic offerings. Berean Christian only fields boys' and girls' basketball, boys' and girls' soccer teams and volleyball. L&N STEM Academy only participates in cross country, track, golf and tennis.

Tennessee School for the Deaf participates in basketball, volleyball and track.

Only two teams in District 2-A, Cosby and Hancock County, participate in football.

As a result, District 1-A and District 2-A will again combine to form Region 1-A in the sport. The makeup of Region 1-A changes little with only the addition of South Greene, which will play in the Class 2A football playoff subdivision.

Cloudland, Hampton, North Greene, Unaka are the other teams that will comprise the Region 1-A makeup. Unaka, which was a Class 2A playoff subdivision team, has since fallen to Class A - giving the region four 2A teams and three Class A subdivision teams.

In District 2-AAA each of the current eight schools will remain. The district however will see an increase of Class 6A playoff subdivision schools, as Morristown East High jumps up from Class 5A.
Cherokee, Cocke County, Jefferson County, Morristown West, Sevier County, Seymour and South
Doyle High School also remain in the league.

Cherokee High School was rumored to possibly make the jump to District 1-AAA after the upper East Tennessee league dropped to seven schools after losing Sullivan South to Class AA.

District 3-AAA, which is comprised of Knoxville area schools, will have nine teams after Gibbs High School made the jump from Class AA. Had Cherokee been moved to District 1-AAA, Gibbs was a likely replacement for the Chiefs in District 2.

The Board of Control made few changes in the proposed district alignment made by TSSAA staff. In Class A, Tellico Plains was moved from District 5 to District 3. In Class AA, Loudon was moved from District 4 to District 5, while Lewis County and Fairview shifted from District 12 to District 11. Sullivan Central High and Anderson County High had both appealed to the Board of Control regarding their enrollment figures in hopes to move to Class AA, but were unsuccessful in their bid.

The district alignments, as voted on by the Board of Control, will take place effective on July 1 of 2013 and run through June 30 of 2017.

In other actions by the Board of Control, they approved TSSAA Membership of Northview Academy in Kodak. Northview will open in the fall of 2013 as a 7th-9th grade school, with plans to add grades each year. The school plans to participate at the JV level for their first two years, before entering varsity competition in 2015.

The Board of Control also voted to award the TSSAA Girls' State Soccer Tournament to the Siegel Soccer Complex in Murfreesboro for the 2013-14 and 2014-15 school years. The tournament is currently hosted in Chattanooga. The Board also voted to accept the proposal from Willowbrook Golf Course in Manchester to host the state golf tournament for the next four years.

A request by Midway High School to host the District 3-A basketball tournament was denied, as the Roane County school seats fewer than 1,000 people.
