NEWPORT-Despite some cool temperatures and drizzle, the inaugural English Mountain Classic band competition, hosted by Cocke County High School on Saturday, was a huge success.
A total of 16 bands from East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia competed for awards, while host Cocke County High School Red Regiment Band closed out the performances with an exhibition before a packed stadium.
"It was a great night in spite of the weather," said Cocke County Band Director Pat Mason.
All bands were recognized for their efforts at the event. Knox Carter High School won the Grand Champion Award for the Class 3A/4A portion of the competition, while Sullivan Central captured the Grand Champion honor for Class 1A/2A.
