NEWPORT-The Cocke County Highway Commission agreed to explore options concerning damage to roads caused by area logging operations.

Dan and Jamie Williams brought the matter before commissioners during Tuesday's meeting.

"We wanted to see if you were aware of the road conditions because of logging at Yellow Springs," said Jamie Williams. "It's happening on McGaha Chapel Road, as well.

"The roads are being crushed. Will the roads be fixed after the logging is done?"

Jamie Williams presented photos of several spots where the roads have been damaged.

"In one spot, the road has caved in and there are several spots where the pavement has been broken off the side of the road," she said. "There are signs posted for a 10-ton weight limit. I found out that it's a misdemeanor if they are overweight and they can be fined.
