NEWPORT-Faced with adversity for the third time in as many games, the Cocke County Fighting Cocks could've expected the same result.
Only this time a resilient performance on Senior Night at Larry Williams Stadium was a significantly more powerful force than the adversity laid out in front of them.
After seeing a 19-point first half lead evaporate, Cocke County fought back to take a 34-27 victory over Morristown East in their first District 2-AAA victory of the season. The win was the Fighting Cocks first over the Hurricanes since the 2002 campaign.
"Even though we shot ourselves in the foot a 100 different times, our kids found a way to come back, deal with adversity this week and pulled off a good win," Cocke County third-year coach Greg Hacker said. "Our kids played their butts off and did what they needed to do to win.
"That's a big win for our seniors and for our football program," Hacker said.
