WOODSTOCK, GA-It was a big weekend for Newport's Jimmy Owens.

Owens, the defending Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series champion, clinched his second consecutive championship on Sunday night in the Rome Rumble in Rome, Georgia. After the race, Owens held a commanding 385 point lead over Don O'Neal. Scott Bloomquist sits in third place with 7,030 points.

The points win was the second win of the weekend for Owens. He also won Saturday Night's 23rd Annual Lucas Oil Dixie Shootout at Dixie Speedway.

Owens, who started 13th on the grid, inherited the lead when Chris Madden of Gaffney, SC broke a wheel and spun in turn four while leading with three laps remaining in the race. Owens then cruised on for the victory for the first time in the annual event sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.
