NEWPORT-"Roy T. Campbell, Jr. is a modest and humble man, who would have been successful anywhere he chose to live. We're just glad he chose Newport," said William M. Leibrock, a fellow attorney and friend in his keynote address at the 2012 Senior Citizens Home Assistance luncheon Thursday when Campbell was named the group's 2012 Citizen of the Year.
"Abe Lincoln said he liked to see a man proud of his place and a place proud of the man. Roy, Newport is proud of you," continued Leibrock.
"Roy T. Campbell has known me all my life," began Leibrock, who said the recipient "brought my mother a box of candy when I was born. He is a man who is generous with his time, talents, and resources in all areas."
Leibrock called attention to Campbell's role in the establishment of the Industrial Board to recruit industries to Cocke County. "At the time, about all we had were the Tannery and Stokely's," said Leibrock, "and they brought several good companies into our community."
