NEWPORT-A Newport family narrowly escaped seriously injuries early Monday morning when fire consumed their mobile home.

According to a report filed by the Newport Fire Department, Donnie Lane, his wife, child, and the family's small dog fled the 188 Lindsey Lane residence after fire apparently broke out either in or near a closet.

The family went to a neighbor's home and telephoned the fire department. The fire department received the call at 3:58 a.m.

Upon the arrival of six members of the Newport Fire Department, they found the home fully engulfed in flames.

The firemen were successful in preventing the flames from destroying a nearby camper.

The cause of the blaze has not been determined.

Those firefighters answering the call were Gary Miller, Josh Seay, Jason Woodson, Chuck Styles, Shaun Hudson, and Mike Ottinger.
