A benefit, auction, and bake sale on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010, is planned for Travis Starnes, who suffered critical injuries in a truck-motorcycle accident last April in Chattanooga.

The event will be held at the East Tennessee Baptist Association building, 760 New Cave Church Road, Newport from 4:00-8:00 p.m.

Travis, son of Joyce Nease and Ricky and Sandy Starnes, all of Newport, spent several weeks in a Chattanooga hospital after the accident which left him with a broken back and severe injuries to his lower pelvis. He was thrown 50 feet from his motorcycle after its collision with a pick-up truck.

Travis is now at home, dividing his time between his parents. He still faces additional corrective surgery and has no insurance.

The benefit includes a soup bean and cornbread dinner with drink and dessert for $5 per plate. Tickets will be available in advance or at the door.

Additionally many beautiful items will be offered during the auction.

Travis has one sister, Malerie Sisk, of Newport. He is the grandson of Joe and Letha Worex and Jack and Wanda Henry, all of Newport, and the late John J. Reed and the late Lloyd Starnes, Jr.

He has several aunts and uncles, including James and Billie Colley, Tim and Debbie Gass, Rick and Mary Worex, Gary and Lisa Gregg, Jeff and Linda Starnes, and Barry and Melanie (Buffy) Gregory, all of Newport, and Chad Starnes of Morristown.

For more information about the benefit call Joyce or Malerie Sisk at 423-237-5660 or 423-237-8988.
