Jumps sidewalk and hits building
A one-vehicle accident on Monday in the parking lot of Eastern Plaza Shopping Center left a vacant building with over $1,000 in damages. According to Patrolman Billy Woody, Angela Lee Rollins, 28, 296 Echo Valley Way, Newport, said that as she pulled her 1996 Dodge 1500 into a parking spot, her vehicle's brakes failed, causing her truck to cross the sidewalk and strike a vacant building. The building's owner, Jeff Bower, estimated damages at over $1,000.
Theft over $500
Two customers are suspected in the theft of a $500 cash bundle from Check into Cash, 644 Cosby Highway, on Saturday. According to Patrolman Matt Franklin, Sherry Cole, front desk clerk of the business, said a man and a woman entered the business and asked to cash a check. When Cole told them she could not cash it but would call other businesses to see if they could, the couple hurriedly took the check and left. Later Cole discovered the money was missing. Video surveillance tapes show the woman distracting Cole while the man took the money.
Harassment alleged
Patrol officer Amy Elswick responded to a report of harassment on Sunday. According to Elswick, Kelsey Dockery, 18, 248 Happy Hollow Road, Parrottsville, said that as she and her sister exited Food City, her former boyfriend drove toward her as if he were going to strike her.
Counterfeit currency reported
Veronica Holbrook, an employee of Gas-N-Go, 416 Eastern Plaza Shopping Center, told Patrolman Robby McMahan on Monday that when George Lynch attempted to pay for his gasoline with two five-dollar bills, one was found to be counterfeit. Lynch told the officer that he had been to several places and could not remember where he had received the money. The bogus bill was sent to Detective Lynn Shults.
Observing without consent
Jimmy Travis James, 22, faces charges of observing without consent following his arrest by Patrol officer Amy Elswick on Sunday. According to Elswick, James was charged after he was seen looking into the bedroom window of Brandi Worex, 19, 592 Warford Road by Worex's brother, Brandon Worex, who was across the street at their grandparents' home. Brandon Worex, according to Elswick, grabbed a billy club, phoned his sister, and went with his father Jimmy Worex across the street. After finding James, they detained him until police arrived.
Auto vandalism
Pebbles Garner, 25, 195 Bowman Drive, reported damage to her vehicle while it was parked at Wal-Mart to Patrolman Matt Franklin on Saturday. A witness told Franklin that a white female in her early 20s inflicted the damages.
Theft of gasoline
Theresa Ramsey, an employee of Phillips 66, 985 West Highway 25/70, reported a customer pumped $30.49 of gasoline on Sunday and drove away without paying. Patrolman William Garber responded to the call.
Home vandalized
April Ann Anderson, 225 LaMaster Street, reported the windows to her home were cut and unlocked while she was away on Monday. According to Capt. Ronnie Landers, Anderson said nothing appeared to be missing from her home.
SHERIFF
VOP charge
Victoria Campbell, 22, 948 Chestnut Grove Road, Dandridge, was arrested on Sunday and charged with violation of probation by Deputy Shawn Stepp.
DUI charge
Christopher Charles Black, 25, 2322 Allen's Chapel Road, Parrottsville, was charged with DUI first offense by Deputy Steve Johnson on Sunday.
Suspended license charge
Michael Guy Camp, 22, was charged with his second offense driving on a suspended license by Dep. Randy Hartsell on Monday, Dec. 21.
Three brothers charged
Sgt. Armando Fontes charged three brothers with domestic assault on Christmas Eve after officers responded to a home located at 4172 Big Creek Road in Hartford. According to Fontes, deputies Randy Hartsell, Joseph Ownings, Robert Thornton, and Josh Hall answered an E-911 call concerning a fight in progress. Upon their arrival, they were met by Ferman Black, the father of the brothers, who were fighting one another. Fontes said the three men were highly intoxicated. All three were charged with domestic assault.
Charges filed against Hembree
Richard L. Hembree, 24, 1760 Shale Road, Newport, faces charges after a one-vehicle accident at 222 Friendship Road on Christmas Eve, according to Sgt. Armando Fontes. According to Fontes' report, Hembree was charged with second offense DUI and leaving the scene of an accident after his vehicle ran through a 100-foot portion of a cattle fence knocking down ten posts. Constable Mike Shropshire and Deputy Chris Gregg, along with Fontes, went to Hembree's home where he was charged.
Items taken from home
John E. Carden, 1113 Calcasieu Street, Bogalusa, La., reported the theft of several items taken from his home at 201 Pond Curve Way on Monday. According to Dep. Josh Hall, the burglary was discovered by a neighbor, who had gone to check on the property. Missing items include three televisions, two DVD players, a pair of binoculars, a Smith & Wesson .38 handgun, and a checkbook.
Home entered
Ricky Green, 49, 1158 Maple Ridge Way, reported his home entered on Sunday to Dep. David Crowder. According to Crowder, Green said items missing included a 32-inch flat-screen Samsung television, which belongs to E-Z Rentals.
Home damaged
Deputy CJ Ball responded to a report of property damage at 431 Johnson St. on Sunday. According to Ball, Jason Byrum, 35, said that sometime between Dec. 24-27, someone had entered the driveway to the home and, when attempting to leave, had struck the side of the dwelling, causing damage to the underpinning and other parts of the home. Damages are estimated to be approximately $1000.
Medication missing
On Sunday, Barbara Robinson, 46, 876 Rankin Hill Road, reported her home entered and several prescription tablets taken. Dep. CJ Ball investigated the incident.
Break-in reported
Dep. David Parton answered a call of a reported break-in at the home of Freddie Dotson, 2630 Schisandra Lane, Cosby, on Monday, Dec. 21. According to Parton, someone kicked in the home's door and took several items including Coleman camping equipment, saws, drills, a crossbow and case, arrows, an elk horn coffee table, mounted hunting trophies, a battery charger, and fishing equipment. Value of the missing items is estimated at more than $30,000.
Theft of property
Bobby Williams, 40, 1403 Bruners Grove Road, Newport, told Dep. CJ Ball that sometime between Dec. 22-26, someone opened the back door to his residence and stole an Echo chainsaw valued at $400 and a CCHS watch valued at $50.
Ladder lifted
Charles K. Cloud, 52, 104 Badge Way, Newport, reported the theft of an extension ladder, valued at $159, from his home on Sunday. Dep. David Crowder responded to the call.
Driver strikes cinder block
Benjamin Cripe, 662 Virginia St., Newport, told Dep. CJ Ball that as he traveled north on Highway 321, just inside the city limits, his 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee struck a cinder block lying in the highway. The accident damaged the vehicle's right front tire and bent the wheel, with damages estimated at $350.
Property damage reported
Donna Lewis, 49, 598 Wells Drive, told Dep. CJ Ball that sometime on Christmas Day a black Chevrolet Silverado was driven through the fence at her residence causing approximately $300 in damages.
Chickens killed
Gene Templin, 39, 2292 Cosby Highway, reported the deaths of several chickens belonging to his daughter to Dep. CJ Ball on Saturday. According to Ball, Templin said a neighbor's dog had entered his property and killed the animals.
Vehicle entered
Jerry McGaha, 36, 514 Orchard View Drive, Newport, reported his 1996 Ford Ranger entered while he attended church at Carson Springs Baptist Church on Sunday. McGaha told Dep. CJ Ball that items missing included a DVD box and a radar detector.
Three tires cut
Nellie Martin, 50, 115 Ball Park Road, Cosby, reported three tires cut down on her 2005 Chrysler to Dep. David Crowder on Christmas Day.
Vehicle recovered
On Sunday, Dep. David Parton responded to a call on Faith Mountain Road in Hartford regarding a truck on someone's property. Upon his arrival, Parton found a 1995 GMC belonging to James McCarter, which had been reported stolen on Dec. 7. Copyright © 2012, The Newport Plain Talk |
