Shoplifter at Dollar General arrested Brandi Nichole Roberts, 27, of 199 Clevenger Cut-off Road, in Newport, was arrested Thursday, Oct. 29, and charged with theft under $500 after she reportedly walked out of Dollar General, at 3297 Cosby Highway, with socks and body wash worth $23, without paying for the items, Deputy Sheriff Steve Johnson reported. Violation of probation and failure to appear capias Richard Lee Lovell, 49, of 529 Fairfield Drive, in Newport, was arrested Thursday, Oct. 29, and charged with violation of probation and failure to appear/capias, Deputy Sheriff Steve Johnson reported. Motorcyclist hurt in accident on Hooper Highway Donald R. Getty, 54, of 540 Buckhorn Road, in Gatlinburg, was injured and transported by Allied EMS on Thursday, Oct. 29, from the scene of an accident on Hooper Highway after Joanna L. Gunter, 61, of Indian Pathway, in Cosby, was driving a 2003 Ford Focus north on Hooper Highway, turned left to go onto Apollo Road, and hit the motorcycle. Getty was driving a 1984 BMW RRT motorcycle, Deputy Sheriff Joseph Owings reported. Failure to appear arrest Joseph S. Black, 41, of 2121 Patter Way, in Newport, was arrested Monday, Oct. 26, and charged with failure to appear, Deputy Sheriff Steve Johnson reported. Man charged with escape and resisting arrest Jeremy Eugene Ball, 29, of 1310 Happy Hollow Lane, was arrested Saturday, Oct. 31, and charged with escape and resisting arrest, Sgt. Ricky Holt reported. Arrested for assault and resisting arrest Jeffery M. Stewart, 39, of 1389 Neddy's Mountain Road, in Newport, was arrested Wednesday, Oct. 28, and charged with assault and resisting arrest, Deputy Sheriff Jason Oury reported. Violation of a court order Tony Lee Williams, 43, of Cardinal Way, in Newport, said someone he knows refused to let his daughter stay with him for seven days, in violation of a court order that allows that, Sgt. Ricky Holt reported on Friday, Oct. 30. Juvenile punched in nose A teenager at Edgemont School was taken to the Baptist Hospital of Cocke County emergency room to treat a broken nose, on Friday, Oct. 30, that he received when another student allegedly punched the teenager in the nose, Sgt. Eric Rinehart reported. Vehicle theft Willie Joe Cogdill Jr., 42, of Centerview Street, in Newport, said someone he knows stole his 1993 Ford Taurus that he let another acquaintance borrow on Friday, Oct. 23, Sgt. Eric Rinehart reported. The vehicle is valued at $800. Worker who is owed money keeps owner's possessions locked up William Smith, of Alachua, Fl., said Friday, Oct. 30, that he had a woman who watches a cabin in Cosby for him take "knick-knacks" from the residence and store them while he tries to sell the cabin. The Cosby woman later allegedly said he could have the items back only after he paid money owed to her. Smith allegedly admitted to Deputy Sheriff Brian Holt that he does owe the woman some money. The items are valued at $400. Car leaves road, and flips over Freddy W. Hale, 18, of 3461 Sane Road, in Parrottsville, said he was driving a 1998 Ford Escort on Thursday, Oct. 29, on Highway 160 at Airport Road, when he lost control of the vehicle while traveling north on the highway, possibly at a high rate of speed. Hale ran off the left side of the road while negotiating a curve and went down a steep embankment, causing the vehicle to roll over and come to a rest on its top, Deputy Sheriff Hollis Emmons reported. Road leaves O'Neil Road Michael A. Kline, 52, of Halls Top Road, in Newport, was driving a 1998 Chevrolet pickup truck on Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 00:50 a.m., when, while negotiating a curve, drove off the road to the left. The vehicle's left side was damaged upon striking a small ditch and utility pole guide wires, Deputy Sheriff Jason Oury reported. Police Two charges in arrest Michael D. Murrell, 37, of 2053 Viewtopia Lane, in Dandridge, was arrested at Freddie's Lounge on East Main Street on Saturday, Oct. 31, at 2:17 a.m., and charged with possession of Schedule II in excess of one-half gram (four rocks of crack cocaine) and resisting stop, halt, and frisk, Capt. Scott Lamb reported. Two drug charges in arrest Kenneth Ledford, 33, of 716 Industrial Road, in Newport, was arrested on Friday, Oct. 30, and charged with possession of Schedule VI and possession of drug paraphernalia, Patrolman Ricky Parton reported. Theft under $500 Judy Holycross, 62, a Walmart employee, said that on Saturday, Oct. 31, someone stole her Walmart Rewards check (for $20), a black AT&T Flip Phone (valued at $100), and a People's Bank checkbook, for a total value of $140, Patrolman Matt Franklin reported. Breaking and entering/theft over $1,000 Sonic Drive-in Manager Adam King said that on Friday, Oct. 30, he found a safe open and cash taken, in the amount of $1,558.85, Patrolman William Garber reported. A suspect was named for the theft from the restaurant, which is located at 256 West Broadway, in Newport. Suspected drug seeker Dr. Miranda Diaz of Baptist Hospital of Cocke County, at 435 2nd St., in Newport, said a suspected drug seeker came into the hospital on Friday, Oct. 30. She said the white woman, 55, complained of body aches and wanted some pain medication. The woman has allegedly been to several local and out of state hospitals within the last few months in efforts to get pain medication, Lt. Terry Lawson reported. Vandalism reported A woman said her 1996 Mercury LS was parked at Walmart, at 1075 Cosby Highway, on Friday, Oct. 30, and when she returned to it, she found two scratch marks on her paint on the passenger side, Capt. Scott Lamb reported. Theft under $500 An employee at West End Package Store, at 335 West Broadway, in Newport, said a shoplifter ran out of the store with a bottle of Tvarseki vodka (valued at $17.99) and one bottle of Kahlua ($11.99), on Friday, Oct. 30, Patrolman Amy Elswick reported. The shoplifter was described as a white male, about 5 feet, 7 inches, with dark hair and dark moustache, aged 20-25, and wearing black pants and a gray hooded sweatshirt. A video surveillance at the time of the theft was going to be reviewed. Accident in Walmart parking lot Kimberly D. Cole, 43, of 50 Laura Jackson Road, in Fairview, N.C., was waiting at a stop light to exit the Walmart parking lot, in a 2008 Ford Focus, on Friday, Oct. 30, when a 2008 Jeep Wrangler driven by Macie L. Finchum, 18, of 621 East Broadway, in Newport, struck it in the rear. Damage to the Ford Focus was very minimal, Sgt. Stephen Higginbotham reported. The Jeep did not appear damaged. Accident at Lakeview Street and U.S. Highway 321 William J. Hartsell, 23, of 638 Woodlawn Ave., in Newport, was driving a 1993 Honda Accord on Friday, Oct. 30, traveling north on U.S. Highway 321 at Lakeview Street. Abraham I. Buhlmann, 20, of 443 Woodlawn Ave., in Newport, was driving a 1997 Chevrolet Blazer, traveling south on Highway 321. The Blazer hit the Honda Accord in the driver's side door, Lt. Terry Lawson reported. Accident at Newport Town Center A 2003 Mercury Grand driven by Allene B. Barlowe, 77, of 235 Joe Reed Road, in Bybee, collided with a 1987 Volvo Wagon owned by David Hill, of 560 Summit Ridge Drive, in Newport, on Thursday, Oct. 29, at the Newport Town Center, Sgt. Jason Smith reported. Hit and run at Long John Silver's Drive-thru Kathy R. Collier, 27, of 337 Graham St., in Newport, was on Thursday, Oct. 29, sitting in a 2000 Mercury Sable at the window of the drive-thru at Long John Silver's when a 2002 Ford Ranger pickup owned by Ed and Ann Hall, of 1821 Junior Williams Road, in Dandridge, pulled up and struck the Mercury Sable in the rear, Patrolman Heather Lawson reported. Accident in Krystal parking lot Rita Tucker, 41, of 800 Comanche Drive, in Newport, apparently backed up her 2007 Jeep PLD into a 1991 Honda UCS driven by Robert Thomas Hale, 54, of 435 Leith Way, in Newport, in the Krystal parking lot at 579 West Broadway St., on Thursday, Oct. 29, at 7:30 a.m., Patrolman Matthew Elliott reported.
