COSBY-Mother Nature may not have been kind, but that didn't stop some 70 runners from hitting the course at the 12th Annual Moonshine Run to kick off Saturday festivities at the 'On Cosby Festival' this past Saturday, October 17.

"The weather kept our numbers down a bit," said race organizer John Jenkins. "But we were happy with the turnout. Of the 70 runners, 42 were pre-registered, and they all came. We also had 16 new runners this year, which is always a good sign."

This years' run also got a boost from the Knox Track Club.

"We got 11 entries from the Knox Track Club's web site," said Jenkins. "Two of the runners were from California and they found out about the run from the Track Club's web site."

Despite chilly and wet conditions, the times were competitive with Kevin Fitzgerald of Sevierville footing the 5K course with a time of 18:38. The first female to break the tape was Sandra Hogan of Sevierville with a time of 23:20. And, the first Newport runner to break the tape was Gary R. Carver, who finished fourth overall with a time of 22:11. And, the first Cosby runner to finish was Cory Valentine, who finished sixth overall with a time of 23:02.
