A total of 13 firefighters from the Newport Fire Department
worked to extinguish a fire at the home of Mary Arrington, at 552 Jones
Circle, on Wednesday, Oct. 14. Shown extinguishing the last hot spots
in the back of the home are, left, Chuck Styles, and on the right, Justin
Gilbert, of the NFD. The fire was reported at 12:33 and completely
extinguished several hours later. Nobody was injured, but Arrington's
pet dog apparently died in the fire.

14. A Newport Fire Department spokesperson said Wednesday that the cause of the fire, which consumed a storage area or breezewayin the back of the home, was unknown. Two units and a total of 13 firefighters from the NFD responded to a call of a fire at the home of Mary Arrington that came in at 12:33p.m. Sammy Crum, 18, who lives across the street ofArrington's home, at 543 Jones Circle, told the NPT he was at his computer whenhe heard the sound of approaching fire trucks on his street. He said he lookedup then to see the back of Arrington's home engulfed in flames. Arrington's pet dog, which apparently died in the fire,was picked up by the Newport Animal Shelter.
