Drug charges in arrest
Lucie Adale Stuart, of Holland, Mich., was arrested Wednesday, Sept. 23, and charged with conspiracy to sell Schedule II and III controlled substances, and conspiracy to deliver Schedule II and III controlled substances, Deputy Sheriff David Crowder reported.

One of two arrests on Gardenia Road
Lisa Darlene Large, 46, of 322 Lonesome Pine Road, in Bybee, was arrested Wednesday, Sept. 23, and charged with conspiracy to sell Schedule II and III controlled substances, conspiracy to deliver Schedule II and III controlled substances, possession of Schedule II for resale, and possession of Schedule IV for resale, Deputy Sheriff David Crowder reported.

Other arrest on Gardenia Road
Mary Ethel Arms, 62, of 385 Gardenia Road, in Newport, was arrested Wednesday, Sept. 23, and charged with conspiracy to sell Schedule II and III controlled substances, and conspiracy to deliver Schedule II and III controlled substances, Deputy Sheriff David Crowder reported.

Arrest and drug charges
Thomas Michael Hollifield, 33, of 3010 Old Parr Ottsville Highway, in Parrottsville, was arrested Wednesday, Sept. 23, and charged with conspiracy to sell Schedule II and III controlled substances, and conspiracy to deliver Schedule II and III controlled substances. Hollifield was arrested on Old Parrottsville Highway, in Parrottsville.

DUI and other charges
Willie J. Webb, 45, of 1546 Finchum Road, was arrested Saturday, Sept. 19, and charged with DUI 2nd offense, driving on a revoked license (third offense), and violation of implied consent, Deputy Sheriff Jason Oury reported.

DUI charge and arrest
Bertha Green, 51, of 1000 Murray Brach Road, was arrested Sunday, Sept. 20, and charged with DUI, Deputy Sheriff Jason Oury reported.

Two counts of domestic assault
Ronald Bailey, 29, of 242 Judds Lane, was arrested Monday, Sept. 21, and charged with two counts of domestic assault, Deputy Sheriff Jason Oury reported.

Failure to appear arrest
Melissa A. Foster, 37, of 648 English Springs Way, in Newport, was arrested Tuesday, Sept. 22, and charged with failure to appear, according to a report by Constable Danny Hartsell.

Vehicle reported stolen
Kevin Wilder, 49, of West Highway 25/70, told Deputy Sheriff Derrick Webb that on Thursday, Sept. 17, he noticed someone had taken his 1996 Ford Mustang, which he valued at $2,500.

Break-in reported
Bobbie J. Cureton, 27, and William Helms said when they returned to their Battle Road home on Tuesday, Sept. 22, they found several items had been taken: a Uniden scanner (valued at $25), a washer ($100), dryer ($100), stove ($75), refrigerator ($100), a Hewlett & Packard computer ($200), assorted jewelry ($100), and other items, Deputy Sheriff Tony Bailey reported.

Forgery of check alleged
Jim Huskey, 45, of Court Avenue, in Newport, said on Tuesday, Sept. 22, someone wrote a check for $3,000 out of his bank account without his permission or signature, Deputy Sheriff Hollis Emmons reported.

Theft over $1,000 charge in arrest
Grant David O'Dell, 30, of 900 Bat Harbor Road, in Newport, was arrested Monday, Sept. 21, and charged with theft over $1,000, Det. Bryan Murr reported. O'Dell was charged in connection with the theft of over $2,000 worth of property from Rafting in the Smokies, in Hartford, on April 21, 2009.

Three charges in arrest
Brett T. Hauser, 37, of 139 Thurman Road, in Newport, was arrested Monday, Sept. 21, and charged with domestic assault, disorderly conduct, and vandalism under $500, Deputy Sheriff Hollis Emmons reported.

Vandalism alleged
Cynthia Grimsley, 58, of Point Pleasant Road, stated that on either Wednesday, Sept. 16, or Thursday, Sept. 17, someone vandalized her mailbox, Deputy Sheriff Tony Bailey reported.

Several charges in arrest
Michael Smelcer, of 1110 Plum Way, in Del Rio, was arrested Sunday, Sept. 20, and charged with DUI first offense, driving with a revoked license, financial responsibility, vehicular assault, child restraint, and an unregistered vehicle, Deputy Sheriff Steve Johnson reported. Smelcer was reportedly the driver of a vehicle involved in a traffic accident on South Highway 107.

Man found dead at Family Inns
Mark Glendell Craft, 53, of 772 Zelda Court, in Hendersonville, N.C., was found dead Sunday, Sept. 20, at around 12:15, at the Family Inns of Newport, located on the Cosby Highway, where he had been a guest since Wednesday, Sept. 16, Capt. Brad Ball reported. The last time Craft was reported to have been seen by motel employees was Friday, Sept. 18, at around 10 p.m., when he went to the motel's lobby and extended his stay until Sept. 20. Officers determined no criminal offense(s) occurred and no autopsy was to be performed, the report stated.

Theft of medication
Doris Meece, 32, of Riverridge Way, in Newport, said she believed an acquaintance stole medication from her home on Monday, Sept. 14, around 11 p.m. or midnight, Patrolman Donald Coakley reported.

Burglary of a business and theft of property
Larry D. Stanley, 29, of 629 Upper Broad, in Newport, was arrested Tuesday, Sept. 22, and charged with burglary of a business and theft of property, Capt. James Holt reported. A video allegedly showed Stanley burglarizing the West End Exxon gas station at about 3 a.m. on Sept. 8.

Disorderly conduct arrest
Randy W. Cashen, 44, of 538 Black Walnut St., was arrested Tuesday, Sept. 22, and charged with disorderly conduct, Sgt. David R. Smith reported.
Cashen was allegedly calling 911 without an emergency and was intoxicated.

Theft under $500
Harold A. Ball, 40, of 435 Industrial Road, was arrested Wednesday, Sept. 23, at about 3:50 a.m., and charged with theft under $500 after police were called to the Mountain Crest Inn on a complaint of a strong odor coming from a room. Ball allegedly had warrants from Sessions Court in Cocke County.

Arrest on Whitson Drive
Joshua A. Ewen, 21, of 3846 Glendale Road, in Bybee, was arrested Wednesday, Sept. 23, at about 1:30 a.m., and charged with domestic assault, driving on a suspended license, and simple possession, Patrolman Billy Woody reported.

Domestic assault charge and arrest
Natisha A. Mahoney, 21, of 245 White Oak Ave., in Newport, was arrested Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 1:15 a.m. and charged with domestic assault. Patrolman Matthew Elliott wrote that police could not determine if Mrs. Mahoney or her husband, Joshua Ewen, was the primary aggressor, so both were arrested for domestic assault.

Burglary on Jones Circle
Cody Gilbert, 18, of Jones Circle, said his home was burglarized on Saturday, Sept. 19, or the next day, Patrolman Matt Franklin reported. Reported stolen were: a Mossberg 500 12-gauge shotgun worth about $300, a .22 caliber Mossberg worth $275, and .22 caliber lever action worth $200.

Theft of Social Security check/forgery
Kelly Higgins, 34, of 2022 Snipe Lane, in New Market, told Patrolman William Garber that while she was incarcerated, an acquaintance took her Social Security check from the post office, forged her name, and cashed it without her permission. The check was in the amount of $718, Patrolman William Garber reported.

Two counterfeit $100 bills
Darla Harris, a Walmart manager, reported that on Wednesday, Sept. 23, Angie Rennee Shelton, 46, tried to put two $100 bills on her cash card, Lt. Terry Lawson reported. Shelton reportedly gave police the name of the person who gave her the two counterfeit bills.

Theft over $1,000
Stella Howard, 48, of Highland Street, in Newport, said she left her house on Monday, Sept. 21, and then returned to discover 100 movies were missing, Patrolman Donald Coakley reported. The movies are valued at $2,000.

Storm water grates reported stolen
Ben Hicks, of the Newport Streets Department, said he discovered on Friday, Sept. 18, that he was missing two storm water grates from Runnion Street, one storm water grate from Senior Way; one from Linden Street; and one from Nutmeg Street. Hicks told police that, in addition, on the next day, Sept. 19, he discovered another grate missing from Bowman Street, Patrolman Donald Coakley reported. The grates are valued at $974, and the labor to install them at $150.

Utility trailer reported stolen
William Givens, 70, of Bullard Drive, said that on either Tuesday, Sept. 22, or Friday, Sept. 23, someone stole his 1997 Currahee trailer, Capt. Scott Lamb. Givens said it was black with blue fenders, white rims, and a two-by-six for a tailgate. He valued it at $1,200.

Thief used ATM card
Michelle Ellis, 38, of Diamond Circle, in Newport, said that on Friday, Sept. 18, someone stole her ATM card and used it to purchase items at Walmart and Fred's, in Newport, Deputy Sheriff Brian Holt reported.

Theft over $500
Brad Summons, of Knoxville, said that sometime between Aug. 23 and Sept. 23, someone removed the gate to a cell tower for U.S. Cellular, Sgt. Eric Rinehart reported. Summons said the theft took two copper buss bars valued at $1,000 and forty feet of copper line worth $700. He estimated labor to replacement the items at $1,500.
