Inmate escapee from Claiborne County apprehended
Craig Johnson, of 836 Fowlers Ridge Road, in Bybee, was arrested at his home by Deputy Sheriff David Crowder on Friday, Sept. 4, and charged with escape from Claiborne County. Deputy Sheriff Brian Holt had Johnson in custody when Crowder arrived.

Three counts of identity theft
Linda C. Daniels, 57, of 221 Gregg Lane, in Newport, was arrested Thursday, Sept. 3, and charged with three counts of identity theft, Deputy Sheriff Derrick Webb reported.

Several charges in arrest
Charles D. White, 52, of 1031 Fowlers Ridge Road, in Newport, was arrested Thursday, Sept. 3, and charged with aggravated domestic assault, threatening to kill victim's animals, resisting arrest, possession of a prohibited weapon, and possession of a firearm while intoxicated, Sgt. Armando Fontes reported.

Public intoxication charge in arrest
Amy Waylene Ramsey, 39, of 611 Myers Circle, was arrested on the Cosby Highway on Friday, July 21, and charged with public intoxication, Deputy Sheriffs Danny Hartsell and Josh Hartsell reported.

Accident on Cosby Cutoff Road
Jerry S. Williamson, 50, of 476 Pondon Road, in Newport, was driving a 2004 Ford F-150 pickup truck on Cosby Cutoff Road, near Cosby Highway, on Wednesday, Sept. 2, when the road allegedly had a slippery substance on it, causing him to slide into the rear of a 1986 Ford pickup truck driven by Nigel W. Fine, 30, of 104 Windsong Drive, in Parrottsville, Deputy Sheriff Derrick Webb reported.

Accident on Sane Road
Cindy W. Hale, 39, of 904 Lightning Road, in Parrottsville, said she was driving a 2000 Ford TS2 south on Sane Road on Thursday, Sept. 3, when a car coming in the opposition direction, allegedly at a high speed, forced her to avoid a head-on collision by driving off the road into a ditch, Sgt. David Crum reported.

Accident in Lowe's parking lot
Wayne Angelo, 36, of 1544 Red Bud Drive, was allegedly driving a 1999 Honda ULX through a lane in the parking lot of Lowe's on the Cosby Highway on Thursday, Sept. 3, when Christina Herman, 42, of 559 Hemlock Ridge Way, in Newport, backed a 2001 Dodge Intrepid into Angelo's vehicle, Sgt. Jason Smith reported.

Accident in Woodstone Apartments parking lot
Elizabeth McNabb, 57, of 603 9th St., in Newport, was backing up in the parking lot of the Woodstone Apartments complex when it struck a 2008 Honda Civic. The Honda's owner, Steven Mathis, of 609 9th St., was not inside his vehicle when the accident occurred, Patrolman Heather Lawson reported.

Burglary and theft under $500 charged in two arrests
Christopher Jason Saylor, 31, of 315 Dykes St., in Newport, was arrested Wednesday, Sept. 2, and charged with burglary and theft under $500, Det. Bryan Murr reported. Saylor allegedly stole $318 worth of cigarettes from the 25E Market at 258 Highway 25E, in Newport. Larry Scott Cashen, 34, of 260 Senior Way, in Newport, was also arrested and charged with burglary and theft under $500 in the case.

Collision of two vehicles avoided on Highway 160
Marvin SiFontus, 24, of 261 Filbert St., in Newport, said he was driving a 1995 Chevrolet pickup truck on Thursday, Sept. 3, at around 11 p.m., headed south on Highway 160, near Red Hill Road, when he went around a curve and saw a white van on his side of the road with their bright lights on. SiFontus told Deputy Sheriffs Joseph Owings and Tom Harp that he swerved to the right to avoid a collision, dropped off the road, and lost control of his vehicle, which rolled over and onto its side. SiFontus was not injured.

Arrested for vandalism
Corey Webb, 18, of 1764 Lower English Creek Road, in Newport, was arrested Wednesday, Sept. 2, and charged with vandalism in connection with the cutting down of a tire on Tuesday, Sept. 1, which he allegedly admitted to, Sgt. Armando Fontes reported.

Accident on Keisling Road
A 2000 Nissan Sentra driven by Martha F. Buckner, 49, of 369 Keisling Road, in Newport, struck a 1995 Chevrolet Blazer SUV driven by Henry D. McMahan, 64, of 288 Keisling Road, in Bybee, on Thursday, Sept. 3, Deputy Sheriff Hollis Emmons reported.

Harassment alleged
Mary Gray, 48, of 142 Brookfield Drive, in Newport, reported on Tuesday, Sept. 1, that a relative continuously called her phone, and threatened to burn her vehicle and her home down while she was in it, according to a report by Deputy Sheriff C.J. Ball. Officers allegedly spoke to the relative on the phone and told the person they would be arrested if they returned to Gray's residence and if they called Gray by phone.

Vandalism alleged
Stephen Griffin, 19, of 929 Cedar St., in Newport, said that while his 1992 Ford Ranger pickup truck was parked on Cedar Street, someone drove by and busted out the front windshield, which Griffin valued at $400, Deputy Sheriff C. J. Ball reported.

Burglary reported
Jeremiah Elmore, 27, of 115 Campers Paradise Road, in Cosby, said someone stole his son's Xbox 360 and one remote, from their home, on Tuesday, Sept. 1, Deputy Sheriff C.J. Ball reported. The Xbox is valued at around $300, and the remote at $40.

Tires and rims reported stolen
Lloyd N. Green, 75, of Highway 25E, in Newport, said that on Friday, Sept. 4, around 8:30 a.m., he discovered someone had stolen the back tires and rims off of his deceased son's 1999 Mercedes Benz, Deputy Sheriff David Crowder reported. The tires and rims are valued at $2,000.

Two women arrested at same time, different charges
Jessica Gray, 23, of 302 East Mineral St., in Newport, was arrested on Woodlawn Avenue, close to Freddy's Lounge, on Friday, Sept. 4, and charged with driving on a suspended license (second offense), Patrolman Ricky Parton reported. Kendra Hall, 26, of 302 East Mineral St., allegedly seen arguing with Gray, was arrested at the scene and charged with criminal impersonation for giving a false name to police.

Violation of probation and failure to appear
Mary A. Williamson, 35, of 635 Vantage Drive, in Newport, was arrested Thursday, Sept. 3, and charged with violation of probation and failure to appear, Patrolman Donald Coakley reported.

Breaking and entering, theft alleged
Kyle Bolin, 26, and Darryl Murray, 25, of 329 Graham St., in Newport, said someone broke into their apartment on Wednesday, Sept. 2, and stole several
Several items. Bolin reported stolen an Xbox 360, a Dell monitor, a tree stand, and an 80-gig I pod for a total of $1,050. Murray said his I pod (worth $300), and $170 in cash were stolen. Sgt. Jason Smith reported that he noticed scratch marks on the front door as if it had been pried open.

Accident in parking lot of Walgreens
Bobby Anderson Sutton, 21, of 110 Rose Way, in Newport, allegedly backed out of a parking spot at Walgreens, at 102 East Broadway, on Friday, Sept. 4, and struck the rear of a 2002 Buick LeSabre owned by Carol L. Malone, of 1819 Curtis St., in Greeneville. Sutton was driving a 1995 Chevrolet Blazer SUV, Patrolman Jason Hensley reported.

Hit and run reported
Kathy Poteete Jones, 50, of 266 Wolf Creek Road, in Del Rio, had her 2003 Ford Focus parked at White's Foods, on Friday, Sept. 4, went inside to shop, and returned to find her vehicle's left rear fender had a dent in it and was scratched, according to a report by an officer with the Newport Police Department.

Medication reported stolen from parked vehicle
Denneasa K. Thomas, 27, of 516 Catfish Way, in Dandridge, said that on Friday, Sept. 4, from noon to 1 p.m., at the Food City East Shopping Center, someone stole her pocketbook from her vehicle, a 1988 Toyota Camry. Thomas told Capt. Brad Ball she left her car unlocked and with at least one window largely rolled down. The total value of items stolen, including medication and a Safelink cellular phone, is $110.

Theft at hospital emergency room
Cathy R. McKee, 54, of 121 Sycamore Way, in Newport, said on Wednesday, Sept 3, from noon to 1:10 p.m., at the emergency room at Baptist Hospital of Cocke County, an acquaintance took $400 from her pocketbook, Capt. Brad Ball reported.

Counterfeit $100 bill
John Halton, 52, of 202 Sulfur Springs Road, in Newport, allegedly tried to use a counterfeit $100 bill at Quik Stop Number 32, at 366 West Broadway, on Friday, Sept. 4. Halton named the place where he cashed a check and got the fake bill. He didn't know it was a fake, Patrolman Billy Woody reported.

Counterfeit money
Jennifer Hall, 29, of 421 Harper Circle, in Newport, said she took saving to deposit in an account at Lowland Credit Union on Friday, Sept. 4. A bank teller there noticed one $100 bill was counterfeit. Hall said she was unsure where she got it. The fake bill was collected and entered into evidence, Patrolman William Garber reported.

Accident by motorcyclists on Old Knoxville Highway
Amanda L. Fox, 30, of 158 Ellis St., in Bean Station, was riding a 2005 Honda JH2 on Old Knoxville Highway on Saturday, Aug. 29, around 10 p.m., that struck the rear of a 1997 Harley-Davidson driven by Tina Marie Arwood, 29, of 815 Gaston St., in Morristown. The Harley-Davidson went off the shoulder of the road and turned over. The Honda also turned over and threw the passenger off. Both drivers did not have a mandatory motorcycle endorsement on their drivers' licenses, Sgt. Armando Fontes reported. No injuries were reported.


Accident on West Broadway
Shena Laws, 22, of 1740 Pat Road, in Newport, was driving a Mercury Sable on West Broadway, near Douglas Avenue, on Thursday, Sept. 3, when her vehicle struck the rear of a 2003 Chrysler Intrepid driven by Joseph Miller, 33, of 536 Belcher Road, in Newport, Patrolman Derek Wright reported.

Dispute in who caused accident on East Broadway
Cale R. Suthard, 43, of 1555 North Liberty Hill Road, in Morristown, said he had stopped the vehicle he was driving, a 1999 Ford van, for a traffic light on East Broadway at McSween Street, on Thursday, Sept. 3, when a 2007 Dodge Grande driven by Brenda G. Daniel, 53, of 610 Carson Springs Road, in Newport, rolled forward and hit the rear of Suthard's Ford. However, Daniel said the opposite was true, that she was sitting at the traffic light on East Broadway at McSween Street when the Ford hit her vehicle in the rear end, Patrolman Donald Coakley reported.

Theft of services disputed
Denise Ruggles, the registered owner of a gold Nissan 520 RSF, told Det. Donna Hopkins on Thursday, Sept. 3, that she gets gas at Mapco gas station at 250 West Broadway, on a regular basis, and has not lent her car to anyone, nor had two male passengers in her vehicle at any time. She said because she always pays for her gas with a debit card, her bank statement will show where she paid for gas on Wednesday, Aug. 19.

Counterfeit $100 bill revealed at gas station
Marvin Worley, of Murphy USA, a gas station in the parking lot of Walmart, at 1077 Cosby Highway, in Newport, said an unknown subject tried to pre-pay for gas with a $100 bill. Worley said he told the male it was a counterfeit bill and he fled from the scene, Patrolman Robby McMahan reported.

Mystery jeans show up in breaking and entering
Hubert Dalton, 58, of Filbert Street, in Newport, said that on Thursday, Sept. 3, someone entered his home, apparently with a key since there were no signs of entry. Dalton said nothing was missing, but that a pair of ladies jeans had been added to clothes hanging in a closet, Sgt. David R. Smith reported.

Officers investigate theft of money at Burger King
Tara Eddy, of Burger King Corporation at 836 Cosby Highway, said on Thursday, Sept. 3, that she suspects someone of stealing money from the restaurant's register. Eddy told Patrolman Derek Wright that when she counted the money down that night, it was over $16.04.

Medication reported stolen
Brittney Mulvihill, 21, of Sulfur Springs Road, in Newport, said that someone stole her purse she hid under a seat in a 1996 Nissan Maxima while she shopped at White's grocery store at 208 West Broadway, for 10 minutes, on Thursday, Sept 3, Sgt. Jason Smith reported. Mulvihill said $50 in cash was stolen, and about $50 worth of medicines.
