NEWPORT-The season has been going according to plan forveteran late model driver Jeff Myers. Patience is a virtue, and Myers has hadplenty of it. His patience paid off again Saturday night at Newport Speedway.

Myers was the class of the field, holding off ARCA Re/MaxSeries rookie and Newport native Jake Crum for top honors in the Super LateModel feature. Martin Nesbitt finished third, followed by Scottie Hicks,Michael Velines, David Flynn, Mike Pressley and Ed Surrett.

Myers now has four feature victories, and has finished noworse than fourth in each of the Super Late Model features this season atNewport Speedway. And that's why he's leading in the point standings with 680,ten points better that Martin Nesbitt (670). Myers and Nesbitt are running awaywith the show as David Flynn (375) is third, followed by Jason Grant (350), LeeTissot (300), Darrell Williams (295), Junior Franks (195), Blake Smith (190),Michael Velines (180), Mike Miller (160) and Jake Crum and Keith Carter (bothon 155).

Brandon Rogers took top honors in the Limited Late Modelfeature, followed by Zack Franks, Darrell Williams, Jackie Buckner, Wayne Webb,Dakota Slagle, Sonny Leatherwood and Davey Smart.

Wayne 'Spider' Webb (1,015) still has a comfortable leadatop the Limited Late Model standings, followed by Darrell Williams (800),Jason Grant (780), Sonny Leatherwood (745), Dakota Slagle (660) and Eric Green(600).

T.J. Williams captured his first feature win of theseason in the Street Stocks, followed by Steve Akers, Jesse Clark, BruceFisher, Marvin Green, Jr., Keith Cloud, Gary Messer and Rickey Ford.

Ricky Brown (980) is still the Street Stock pointsleader, followed by Steve Akers (915), Rickey Ford (625), Emily Tracy (620),Ray Jarnigan (465), Jesse Clark and Melody Chandler (both on 450), and CharlieLoyd and Gene Griffey (both on 370).

Steve Frazier is on a rail in the Modified Four division,capturing his fourth straight feature victory Saturday night, and his seventhof the season. Ray Frazier finished second, followed by Oscar Allmon and JakeHendrix.

Steve Frazier (790) jumped Oscar Allmon (785) for the ModFour point lead, followed by Randall Frye (650), Kenneth Green (510), JakeHendrix (415), Ray Frazier (405) and Mitchell Fox (195).

Chad Pressley took the checkers first in the Front WheelDrive feature, followed by Wayne Pressley, Cameron Gunter, Jesse Slagle, GregStephens, Donny Holland, Josh Ramsey, Ricky Webb, William Busler, NicholasStephens, and Russell Borders.

Cameron Gunter (1,180) leads the way in the FWD pointstandings, followed by Wayne Pressley (1,130), Ricky Webb (1,090), ChadPressley (1,055), Everette Craine (955), Terry King (710) and Donny Holland(600).

Blake Jones took top honors in the Legends feature,followed by Chris McKinney, Taylor Coffman, Carl Stanley and Jim Brown.

Chris McKinney (815) still holds a comfortable lead inthe Legends point standings, followed by Taylor Coffman (630), Blake Jones(625), Jim Brown (545), Dean Davison (415), Tyler Mullins (340) and CarlStanley (305).

And, Tim Long defeated Pie Barndt for top honors inSlammers.

Super Late Models will be back on track again thisSaturday night, August 8, at Newport Speedway, along with Limited Late Models,Street Stocks, Mod Fours, Front Wheel Drives, Legends and Slammers. Gates openat 1 p.m. with racing underway at 7:30 p.m.

OWENS UP NORTH

Jimmy Owens and his No. 20 Dirt Late Model team trekkedto the states of New York, Virginia, and Maryland last weekend with the LucasOil Late Model Dirt Series.

On Thursday night, the Utica Rome Speedway in Vernon, NewYork played host to a $10,000 to win show. Jimmy qualified well and later wonhis competitive heat race to earn the third starting spot in the 50-lap A-Main.The Newport native ran amongst the leaders early before finishing in the eighthposition.

Following a rainout on Friday at Winchester Speedway inWinchester, Virginia, the Jimmy Owens Racing team invaded the historicHagerstown Speedway in Hagerstown, Maryland on Saturday evening, August 1. Jimmyonce again won his heat race and started third in the $10,000 to win mainevent. The driver, known as the "Newport Nightmare," wound up astrong third in the 50-lap A-Main behind winner Brad Neat and runner-up EarlPearson, Jr.

Jimmy currently finds himself third in the latest versionof the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series point standings following Hagerstown.Scott Bloomquist still leads the way followed by Earl Pearson, Jr. (-165),Owens (-240), Dale McDowell (-240), Don O'Neal (-425), Ray Cook (-545), SteveCasebolt (-615), Brad Neat (-855), Eric Jacobsen (-1,090), and J. Blankenship(-1,235).

411 MOTOR SPEEDWAY

It was a tough night for Newport's Josh Driskill at 411Motor Speedway. Driskill has been at the front of the Crate-Modified divisionall season at 411, but finished fourth this past Saturday night behind BobbyCowan, Luke Fox and Jeff Akard.

Driskill (3,265) still leads the way in the CrateModified point standings, followed by Luke Fox (3.205), Jeff Adkard (3,070) andBobby Cowan (1,835).

MOUNTAIN RACEWAY PARK

Josh Henry and the Nesmith Late Models hadthe weekend off at Mountain Raceway Park. Henry still leads the way in thepoint standings with 680, followed by Hunter Best (664) and Weston Gantte(424).
