remaining funds to eight organizations on Thursday. Fred Beaver explained someone had donated $25,000 to the organization and the group had decided to divide those funds among eight organizations that had helped most often with United Way fundraisers and events. "We took the money that was left in the bank and we've divided it among those who've helped most often. This money came from an individual donation," he added. "We are splitting it eight ways, giving each organization $3,000." Beaver explained after the donations, United Way of Cocke County would no longer exist. Beaver had announced at a Partnership meeting a few months ago that the IRS cleared the local chapter after some problems with bookkeeping and plans were for the organization to once again serve the community. However, he announced on Thursday to those receiving checks the United Way of America is not currently allowing new chapters, so the local chapter would not be in existence. He said hopefully in a few years the organization might be able to reorganize in the county. Local organizations receiving funds were Cocke County Literacy Council, Senior Citizens Home Assistance Service, Newport Rescue Squad, Del Rio Volunteer Fire Department, Grassy Fork Volunteer Fire Department, Centerview Volunteer Fire Department, Cosby Volunteer Fire Department and Parrottsville Volunteer Fire Department.
