Domestic assault alleged Carollynn Grooms, 26, of 108 Rays Loop Road, said she was assaulted by an individual the morning of Friday, June 19. She came to the sheriff's department and said she and the individual had been arguing over money when the argument "escalated" to an assault, according to a report by Deputy Sheriff Jason Oury. She said she was dragged off the couch, hit, and dragged across the carpet. She also said while she was on the ground, the individual hit her in the back. Oury wrote that he observed red marks on her elbow consistent with carpet burn, and that she had bruises on her back. She said the individual threatened to kill her if she did not come up with her part of $40.

Broken down truck in motel parking lot An employee at Family Inn West at 1311 West Highway 25/70, in Newport, said a truck broke down in the motel's driveway after the driver for Walker Trucking, whose home was listed as being on McClure Road in Hayesville, N.C., came off Interstate 40 on Thursday, June 18, and was pulling through the motel's property. The driver allegedly said arrangements would be made to get the truck moved, but it would take the next day for that to happen, according to a report by Deputy Sheriff Timothy N. Snapp. The next day, an employee asked the driver why the truck was still there, blocking the driveway to the motel. The employee said she lost some business because the truck engine ran all night. Guests allegedly complained about the truck and were refunded their money. The employee said the truck driver and his boss were rude to her. However, the driver's boss alleged it was the motel employee who had been rude on the phone. The truck was allegedly removed from the motel by a wrecker almost exactly 24 hours after it broke down at 10 a.m. on June 18.

Lutz allegedly suffered two severe cuts on the left side of his upper lip, and a tooth was knocked out. However, the individual, John Bogle, 34, of Sunset Gap Road, said the two were in a verbal argument when Lutz took off his helmet and as the argument escalated, he swung it at Bogle and struck him on the left side of his head.
