NEWPORT--Auditions are set for Wednesday, June 24, and Monday, June 29, at First United Methodist Church for the upcoming Newport Theatre Guild (NTG) production, "The Dixie Swim Club." Auditions will begin at 6 p.m. on both dates.

NTG veteran Marty Bailey will be directing the production.

He explained the comedy needs a cast of five women, ranging in age from 35 to 60. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.

"No prior experience is needed other than the desire to have the time of your life with four other women," said Bailey.

Characters include Sheree Hollinger, the team captain who is practical, supportive and full of energy; Dinah Grayson, an attorney and a wise-cracking cynic who fought her way to the top; Lexie Richards, a vain, youth obsessed southern belle who enjoys sharing her wild and hilarious romantic tales; Jerri Neal McFeeley, a ditzy ray of sunshine in the group who always sees the positive side of everything; and Vernadette Sims, the hard luck case who seems to be followed by a dark cloud everywhere she goes.
