Oldon was found dead Saturday, June 20, at his uncle Glenn Mantooth's home at
576 River St. Newport Police Chief Maurice Shults said this morning that the baby was discovered dead by Mantooth around 10:45 a.m. on Saturday. Mantooth had apparently rocked the baby to sleep in a baby car seat and then fallen asleep himself beside the baby and on the floor, according to Shults. When Mantooth awoke, he discovered the baby was dead, Shults said. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Brown Funeral Home. The baby's mother, Jennifer Orr, had reportedly left the baby with its uncle to care for him, according to the police chief. Shults said that a preliminary autopsy on the baby conducted Monday showed there were "no apparent signs of any physical trauma" to Oldon. Oldon is survived by his mother, Jennifer Orr; his father, Todd Oldon; grandfathers Glen Ball and Todd Gilchrist; grandmothers Virginia Ball, Anita Or, Nancy Evans, and Jackie Oldon; "special aunts" Amanda Orr Bryant, Katie Orr, and Anna Rose Orr; "special uncles" Glenn Mantooth and Jacob Orr; and many more family members and cousins, according to the funeral home's obituary. The baby had apparently been fed within several hours of his death, Shults said. He said the case file remained open. Copyright © 2009, The Newport Plain Talk |
