(Last modified: 2009-06-11 10:55:21) Source: The Greeneville Sun GREENEVILLE-A federal grand jury meeting in Greenevilleon Tuesday indicted Jeffrey Lee Stock, 41, of Newport, on charges of travelingin interstate commerce and failing to register as a sex offender. Stock, who is presently detained in the Grainger CountyJail on charges placed by the Cocke County Sheriff's Office, will be arraignedon the federal charges on Thursday, June 18, 2009, at 9 a.m., according to anews release from the U.S. Attorney's office. U.S. Attorney Russ Dedrick said Stock violated thefederal "Adam Walsh Act" by being a convicted sex offender whotraveled from Florida to Tennessee and failed to register with authoritieshere. Stock, he said, has been identified by Cocke Countyauthorities as "a person of interest" in the disappearance of aNewport teenager. If convicted, Stock faces a maximum term of imprisonmentof 10 years; a maximum term of supervised release of up to life; a maximum fineof $250,000, and a $100 special assessment. The indictment of Stock is the result of an investigationby the United States Marshal's Service, the Cocke County Sheriff's Department,the District Attorney General for the Fourth Judicial District, the TennesseeBureau of Investigation, and the Knox County Sheriff's Office.
