(Last modified: 2009-05-26 23:04:31) Source: The Newport Plain Talk NEWPORT-The annual Health Fair, sponsored by Rural Medical Services, Inc., ETSU Quillen College of Medicine, Thompson Cancer Center, Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Tennessee will be held on Wednesday, June 3, at Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church in Newport and on Thursday, June 4, at La Gran Comision Baptist Church in Morristown. For both days, the hours will be from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
Several free medical services will be offered including blood tests (cholesterol and blood sugar), pap smears, mammograms, hearing and vision screenings, bone density screenings, lung function screenings, spinal screenings, carotid artery screenings, and medication and herbal counseling. Those people coming for blood tests should arrive early and fast, eating and drinking nothing, except water, from midnight the night prior to the screenings. Women coming for mammograms are asked to pre-register for the June 3 fair by calling 1-800-442-8372. Patients will need to arrive early and bring proof of income. Many community agencies will be present and will distribute a great deal of information about their work. "This marks our tenth anniversary in providing these services," said Diana Clevenger, Rural Medical Services, Inc. Outreach Case Manager. "Please note that Newport's fair has changed locations from Newport Grammar School to Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church.
