Theft, harassment alleged Frank Shumate, 30, of Industrial Road, said that on Saturday, May 9, he noticed 120 pills were missing. When he confronted an individual about it, that person allegedly said he would go to Shumate's house and shoot it up and beat Shumate and an acquaintance, according to a report by Cocke County Deputy Sheriff Robert Thornton. Vandalism at Edgemont Elementary School Several individuals apparently went to Edgemont Elementary School on Saturday, May 9, and spray-painted the cafeteria windows, buildings, and numerous signs in front of the school. The estimated damage was approximately $1,000. Some of the vandalism was recorded on video, according to a report by Cocke County Deputy Sheriff Randy Cutshaw. Theft reported Steven Smith, 22, of Lehigh Drive, in Newport, told Cocke County Deputy Sheriff C. J. Ball, that on Thursday, May 7, an acquaintance stole the following items from his residence: a Sony DVD and tape player, worth $75; 44 DVDs worth $88; 16 videotapes worth $40; 18 pairs of pants worth $200; 45 shirts worth $200; 10 sweaters worth $150; two pairs of work boots worth $200; and a Sony Surround System worth $150, for a total of $1,103. Theft of trees alleged Shawn Hudson, 31, of Morrell Springs Road, told Cocke County Lt. Rick Laws that sometime between Thursday, May 9 and Saturday, May 11, someone stole several trees from his driveway that not yet been set out. The trees were valued at $350. Burglary reported on Alpha Road Jo Ann Wallin, 44, of Alpha Road, in Newport, told Cocke County Sgt. Eric Rinehart that sometime between 6 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Monday, May 11, someone gained entry into her home by breaking the glass on the front door and took the following: A Symphonic DVD player worth $40; an H.P. printer worth $299; and a cedar chest full of baby pictures worth $150. The front door is estimated at $800. Vandalism reported Crystal A. Valentine, 30, of Cosby Highway, in Cosby, told Cocke County Deputy Sheriff Joseph Owings that on Friday, May 8, she found the gate to her barn broken down and her "No Trespassing" and "Keep Out" signs were torn down. There were beer cans and some Newport cigarettes on the property, as well, she said. Stabbing incident Chris Miller, 42, of Halk Lane, in Dandridge, said that on Friday, May 8, an individual threatened him with a knife after allegedly stabbing another individual in the stomach. The man with the knife allegedly told Miller he would "stab him (Miller), too," according to reports by Cocke County Deputy Sheriff Jason Oury. Oury said the stabbed men was taken by ambulance to Cocke County Baptist Hospital and then flown to the University of Tennessee Medical Center to determine the extent of his injuries. Counterfeit bills dispute James Edwards Owens, 37, of 475 Hawkins St., in Newport, and his wife, Sheila Owens, 44, told Sgt. Armando Fontes that on Thursday, May 7, they went to GreenBank and cashed a check for about $600 and then went to pay a monthly bill. They allegedly paid the bill in cash, as they were required to do, and a short time later were told that one of the money notes, for $50, was counterfeit. They paid an additional $50 and then were told a $100 they gave was a fake, too. The couple informed the individual "that all the bills were real and they were just trying to pay for the $50 in case there was actually a mistake. The couple said they believe the person they paid for their bills is attempting to recuperate his losses (and) was trying to pass the bills to them." Officers' investigation Michael John Wade, 26, of 204 Rock Pile Way, said he was asleep in his bed around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, when multiple subjects hit him with their fists and stabbed him and cut his head, back, knees, and hands, according to a report by Cocke County Deputy Sheriff Joseph Owings. Wade said the assailants kept calling him "Jason" and that he owed them $500. "Jason" was reportedly a prior renter of Wade's residence. Arrested and charged with aggravated burglary and vandalism Troy William Waits, 30, of 2105 Highway 160, in Newport, and James Fain, 46, of 312 Shamrock Way, in Bybee, were arrested Tuesday, May 5, by Det. Bryan Murr of the Cocke County Sheriff's Department and charged with aggravated burglary and vandalism in connection with an incident on April 26 at the Troy Dameron residence on Highway 160. Arrest based on indictment from court Anna Marie Valentine, 39, of 229 Bowman drive, was arrested Tuesday, May 5 and charged with criminal facilitation of a felony and contributing to the dependency of a minor, according to a report by C. T. Ball, a deputy sheriff with the Cocke County Sheriff's Department. A warrant was taken out on her on Monday, May 4 and she was arrested without incident. Arrest at Carson Springs and Clevenger Cutoff James K. Moore, 20, of 1576 Bullard Drive, in Newport, was arrested Tuesday, May 5, and charged with driving on a suspended license, according to a report by Cocke County Deputy Sheriff Robert Thornton. He reportedly failed to satisfy a citation out of Hamblen County on June 28, 2008. Stolen auto found burned A stolen 2004 Nissan was found off of Middle Creek Road, in Cosby, on Tuesday, May 5, according to a report by Det. Bryan Murr of the Cocke County Sheriff's Department. The vehicle, which belongs to Danny Bohanan, of Sevierville, had been set on fire and was considered a total loss. Burglary on Valley Way Jerry and Linda Danior of Valley Way said that on Tuesday, May 12, someone entered their residence by prying a door open and took the following: 50-60 DVDs worth $300, 10 CDs worth $200, one Hannah Montana doll worth $100, and other items Assault alleged James Marcum, 42, of Angle Way, in Hartford, told Cocke County Deputy Sheriff David Parton that on Monday, May 11, and individual came to Marcum's residence and started fighting with him and Debbie Fisher. Fisher was transported to Baptist Hospital of Cocke County by Allied EMS. Flowers allegedly taken from grave Nancy Calfee, 56, of 1944 Holt Town Road, in Newport, told Cocke County Deputy Sheriff Tony Bailey that sometime between Saturday, May 9 and Wednesday, May 13, someone at Red Wines Cemetery took the flowers from her family's tombstones and laid one headstone down. The flowers were estimated at $40. Police Two people arrested Benny Lee Helton, 26, of 2346 Jim Henry Roade, in Dandridge, was arrested Wednesday, May 13, and charged with failure to appear in Cocke County General Sessions Court on July 14, 2008, according to Patrolman Matthew Elliott. Marcia Y. Roberts, 32, of 511 Strawberry Way, in Newport, was a passenger in Helton's vehicle and reportedly admitted she had two crack pipes. She was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to appear in Cocke County Sessions Court on Nov. 24, 2008. Wallet reported stolen Amanda Nelson, 20, said her wallet was stolen while she was at a residence on Viewmont Circle visiting a friend between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13, according to a report by Patrolman Heather Lawson.
