Truckers across the nation have come to the financial aid of a Bybee man stricken with advanced cancer and unable to drive his rig any longer.
So on Saturday afternoon at the Newport National Guard Armory friends of the highways have planned a fundraiser beginning at 2 p.m.
Tim Bennett, 41, was diagnosed with renal cell cancer last year and has recently been hospitalized. He has been unable to work since late last year, said benefit organizer Misty Wiseman, of Newport.
A Kentucky trucker with Long Haul band is set to perform on Saturday, and other musicians are invited to show up and entertain.
The family needs help with medical and living expenses, said Wiseman. Those attending the benefit can participate in a raffle, buy refreshments, and listen to music until dark.
Amazing Grace, the clown, will be at the Armory selling balloons to children. A unique giant tow truck from Knoxville will also be on view.
Organizers expect truckers from other states to show up to support Bennett and his wife, Lou Anne Bennett.
