NEWPORT-Food City Stores continue to be active in community works such as Relay For Life. Both Food City East and West were wildly successful in raising money for Relay For Life from customer donations for sundials.

The sundials were taped to the windows of both stores in memory of those who either lost their lives to or overcame cancer.

Food City West Manager Robert Huff said, "We would like to thank the customers for their support." Food City East Manager Kevin Holcomb said, "The customers really stepped up. There were no motivating factors to it other than they just wanted to donate."

Both stores raised more than $4,000 from donations for the sundials. Gas 'N Go manager Linda Worth said, "People don't realize what they (KVAT Food City Stores) do for the community." Worth added, "If it wasn't for our store managers we wouldn't be able to accomplish our goals." Regarding the Relay For Life program and the American Cancer Society, Worth said, "Nearly everyone you've talked with has experienced or knows someone with cancer."

One member of Worth's Relay For Life team is a seven-year survivor of breast cancer.
