Billy Pat holds Daniels at gunpoint
Tuesday, Sgt. Eric Rinehart responded to a burglary in
progress at the home of Billy Pat Cureton, 74, 885 New Cave Church Road,
Newport. Upon arrival, Rinehart spoke with Cureton, who was holding Jimmy L.
Daniels, 36, 221 Gregg’s Lane, Newport, at gunpoint. According to the report,
Daniels allegedly shattered a window at Cureton’s residence and entered the
building. Daniels was arrested and taken into custody.
Crack pipe handed over
Saturday, Sgt. Armando Fontes responded to the 440
Truck Stop on a complaint of a woman reportedly soliciting truck drivers. Upon
arrival, Fontes spotted a 1992 Ford Ranger, with two occupants, which had been
parked for about 10 minutes in the back lot of the truck stop. After
approaching the vehicle, Fontes asked the driver, Matthew A. Presnell, 21, 925
Keener Road, Newport, if there were any drugs or alcohol in the truck. Presnell
told Fontes he did have drug paraphernalia in his vehicle, a crack pipe, which
he handed over. Presnell gave the crack pipe and a cigarette pack to Fontes.
The pack reportedly contained a bag with both white residue and powder inside.
Presnell immediately told Fontes the powder was not real cocaine but rather he
was ripped off for $40. Presnell told Fontes he purchased the substance from a
man. A consensual search of the vehicle yielded several more “baggy corners,”
Brillo and a small pipe with residue. Presnell’s passenger, reportedly a
relative, stated they gave a ride to a woman headed toward the truck stop to
solicit truck drivers. Presnell was arrested on charges of possession of
fraudulent drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.
DUI charges
Friday, Sgt. Armando Fontes arrested James Bogle, 35,
1266 Sunset Gap Road, Cosby, on charges of DUI and violation of the implied
consent law.
Saturday, Sgt. Armando arrested Jonathan L. Turner,
38, 495 Lochmere Drive, Morristown, on charges of second-offense DUI, simple
possession of marijuana, violation of the open container law and driving on a
suspended license.
Saturday, Sgt. Armando Fontes arrested Jeremy S.
Hartley, 33, 1549 Wise Way, Dandridge, on charges of DUI by consent.
PI arrests
Saturday, Dep. Robert Thornton arrested Kenneth
Chrisheana Spencer, 34, 374 Dover Road, Morristown, on a charge of public
intoxication.
Sunday, Dep. Derrick Webb arrested Manuel
Ramirez-Cruz, 27, 502 Little Hollow Road, Cosby, on a charge of public intoxication.
Violation of probation charges
Friday, Sgt. Tony Whitten arrested John Trowell, 27,
721 Hillview Lane, Apartment No. 69, Jefferson City, on a charge of violation
of probation.
Copper swiped off Tolley Hollow
Friday, Lt. Jonathan Morgan filled out an incident
report made by Danny Tolley, 59, 878 Tolley Hollow Road, concerning the theft
of copper wiring from his residence. According to the report, Tolley was
checking on his property when he discovered someone had broken into the home
and took most of the residence’s wiring. Other property inside the house was
destroyed in the process. The estimated value of the stolen wiring is $1,000.
View Drive resident arrested
Sunday, Lt. Richard Caldwell arrested Derrick C.
Styles, 26, 224 View Drive, Newport, on a charge of domestic assault.
Hay bailer lifted from barn
Sunday, Lt. Jonathan Morgan filled out an incident
report made by Ed. Parks, 79, 4557 Asheville Highway, Del Rio, concerning the
theft of his Model 385 John Deere hay bailer. According to the report, the
bailer, valued at $10,000, was stolen at night after thieves cut the fence
around his barn to gain access to the implement.
Home vandalized
Saturday, Sgt. Armando Fontes responded to a break-in
at the residence of Cathy Ball, 30, 1860 Whitlock Road, Newport, after a report
of a ransacked house was made. According to the report, Ball stated that
between 9:30 p.m. and 10:45 p.m., someone pried her front door open to gain
access to the residence. The suspect(s) threw food all over the kitchen floor,
knocked over a TV and scattered several items throughout the home. Ball told
Fontes she has had problems with a City View Drive resident. Nothing was
reported missing from the residence at the time of the report.
Doors, faucets, heating unit stolen
Thursday, Dep. Derrick Webb filled out a report made
by the National Bank of Tennessee concerning the vandalism and theft of
property of a residence owned by the bank at 861 Chicken Hollow Road. According
to the report, sometime within the past month, two doors, two water faucets and
one heating and cooling unit stolen were stolen from the mobile home. The
residence has been abandoned and has yet to be auctioned. The estimated value
of the stolen items is $2,650.
Plate plucked from Toyota
Sunday, Sgt. David Crum filled out an incident report
made by Vergie Allen Hall, 58, 3555 Grassy Fork Road, concerning the theft of
her license plate while it was attached to her 1983 Toyota. According to the
report, the plate was stolen sometime during the weekend while it was parked at
her residence.
Malnourished equine found off St. Tide
Tuesday, May 6, Constable Nathan White and Dep. Alton
Cureton were informed of a malnourished horse found by Lynn Gee, no age given,
903 St. Tide Hollow Road. According to the report, Gee found the animal off St.
Tide Hollow Road. Cureton and White noted the animal’s ribs were visible and
its hooves had sores.
Theft at High Peak
Saturday, Lt. Richard Caldwell filled out an offense
report made by Alice Buckner, 30, 120 High Peak Way, Newport, concerning the
theft of a Playstation, $100 cash and a checkbook from her residence. According
to the report, a black vehicle was seen leaving the area around the time of the
theft. Buckner believes the suspect might have called her before she went to
work.
Unpleasant discovery
Friday, Dep. David Crowder was dispatched to the
residence of Geoffrey Craig Peak, 56, 835 Pleasant Way, Newport, after being
informed of the theft of several tools from his property. According to the
report, Peak told Crowder he noticed several items were missing from his
property beginning May 1. Peak said he also discovered someone took several
items from his workshop. Peak said he didn’t know how the suspect(s) gained
entry into his shop. The estimated value of the tools taken from Peak’s
property is $6,175.
Cleaning supplies, silverware stolen
Friday, Sgt. Tony Whitten filled out an offense report
made by Ronnie Evans, 52, 5044 Bunker Way, Blainsville, Ga., concerning the
theft of several items from a residence he owns at 4465 Ball Hollow Road,
Cosby. According to the report, Evans said that sometime during the past two to
three weeks, someone broke into his Cosby residence and stolen a TV, VCR,
wooden porch swing, silverware, assorted cleaning supplies, one skillet and a
door. The estimated value of the stolen items is $825.
Property cleared from Timber Ridge
Monday, Sgt. David Crum filled out an offense report
made by Leon Massey, 62, 131 Timber Ridge Road, Del Rio, concerning the theft
of several items from his residence. According to the report, Massey state he
moved into the house in Aug., 2007. A woman reportedly lived with Massey from
February to May 10. Massey reported a set of tools, booster cables, one heating
pad and a Roper refrigerator stolen from his residence after the woman
reportedly moved to North Carolina. The estimated value of the stolen items is
$8,980.
Fence foundered
Saturday, Lt. Jonathan Morgan filled out an incident
report made by Tommy Manis, no age given, 3136 Old Parrottsville Highway, concerning
damage done to a barbed wire fence on Shelton Chapel Road. According to the
report, Manis told Morgan someone drove through the fence early in the morning
causing an estimated $200 worth of damage.
Chrysler forced off road
Saturday, Sgt. Tony Whitten filled out a report
concerning a one-vehicle accident off Highway 160. According to the report,
Larry D. Brown, 41, 1501 Nease Road, Bybee, was traveling south on Highway 160
in his 2000 Chrysler when he met a car headed north in his lane, forcing him off
the road.
Police
Higginbotham and Woody wrestle Ware to the ground
Saturday, Patrolman Stephen Higginbotham was
dispatched to Apartment B, 303 Dykes St., Newport, on a call concerning an
alleged domestic assault. Upon arrival, Higginbotham saw a woman running from
the above-listed apartment with Carl L. Ware III, 22, same address, attempting
to grab her. Higginbotham told Ware to stop and get on the ground. However, the
suspect continued to chase the victim until Higginbotham stepped into his path.
According to Higginbotham’s report, “At that time he (Ware) took an aggressive
stance with me and had his fist balled up.” Higginbotham then took Ware to the
ground where he reportedly failed to comply with the officer’s commands to stop
resisting and place his hands behind his back. Patrolman Billy Woody assisted
Higginbotham in wrestling Ware’s arms behind his back to be cuffed. The victim
told Higginbotham that Ware came to her apartment and wanted to use the phone.
After reportedly telling Ware ‘no,’ the suspect allegedly grabbed her by the
arm and pulled her inside the apartment. The woman told officers Ware yelled
and argued with her before allegedly grabbing her around the neck and
attempting to choke her. Ware then let go and went into the kitchen, which is
when the woman ran out of the apartment. Higginbotham observed red marks and a
scratch on the victim’s neck. Ware was arrested on charges of assault by
domestic violence and resisting arrest, stop, halt and frisk.
Boyfriend breaks window
Saturday, Patrolman Jason Smith responded to a
vandalism call made by Brittney Stewart, 18, 654 Myers Circle, Newport,
concerning a window damaged on her 1996 Ford Crown Victoria. According to the
report, Stewart told Smith she had stopped at 524 Woodlawn Ave., Newport, to
speak with her boyfriend who reportedly became angry and followed her outside
his residence while cursing her. As Stewart was leaving the residence in her
Ford, the 21-year-old white male reportedly pulled the driver’s-side window out
of the vehicle while she was attempting to roll it up. The cost of the window,
which was reportedly broken as a result of the incident, is $200.
Crumpled calling card left on couch
Friday, Lt. Jason Ramsey filled out an incident report
made by Alecia Frazier, 28, 435 Woodlawn Ave., Newport, concerning someone
entering her home. According to the report, Frazier stated she was in Johnson
City when someone entered her home, took a single rose from a stem, crumpled
the petals and left it on her couch. In addition, Frazier reported one of the
windows in the home was opened. Nothing was reported stolen from the home.
Hydros taken from dashboard
Saturday, Patrolman Rick Stephenson was dispatched to
307 Dyke St., Newport, on a call concerning theft of medication. Upon arrival, Stephenson
spoke with Cecil Edward Messer, 46, 1863 Jaycee Way, Newport, who stated
someone broke into his vehicle’s dashboard and took 30 Hydrocodone pills
prescribed to him. Messer stated he was visiting a friend and parked his
vehicle in front of the residence on Dyke Street. When Messer left the
residence, he noticed his medication was gone. Messer had reportedly just
filled his prescription at Wilson’s Savemore prior to the theft and that he saw
a man wearing a brown hat running away from his vehicle. The man reportedly got
into a blue Oldsmobile. The estimated value of the stolen medication is $30.30.
Ford explored by thief
Saturday, Patrolman Derek Wright was dispatched to the
residence of Sterlin Smith, 44, 415 Harper Circle, Newport, on a call concerning
the theft of several items from the home. According to the report, Smith told
Wright someone entered his 1995 Ford Explorer and took an Alpine CD player,
black and yellow toolbox with assorted Craftsman tools and a gray floor jack.
The estimated value of the stolen items is $900. Smith said he parked his
vehicle at his residence around 8 p.m. the night before and noticed the items
were missing at 12:10 p.m. Saturday.
Hummer damage
Sunday, Patrolman Jason Smith was dispatched to the
Lowe’s parking lot on a report of a damaged vehicle. Upon arrival, Smith spoke
with Linda Strange, 56, 404 Blue Ridge Way, Newport, who stated she came
outside the store on her break and noticed something had caused damage to the
driver’s-side door of her 2006 Chevrolet HHR. Smith noticed several dents and
scratches on the door. The estimated cost of the damaged door is $2,000.
Pills, speakers, CD player stolen
Monday, Sgt. Scott Lamb responded to a theft call made
by Earl Hall, 41, 627 Vantage Way, Hartford, concerning several items stolen
from his 1986 Toyota R63. Upon arrival, Lamb spoke with Hall who stated he went
inside White’s to shop for groceries and when he returned, noticed his Pioneer
CD player, two BOSE 6 X 9” speakers, one bottle of Hydrocodone and one bottle of
Neurotin had been stolen from his vehicle. The estimated value of the stolen
items is $170.
Geo Prism missing
Monday, Patrolman David Smith filled out an incident
report made by David Harricharan, 64, 104 Burke St., Newport, concerning the
theft of his 1992 Geo Prism. According to the report, Harricharan told Smith
the Geo, which he owns, had been sitting at 356 Woodlawn Ave., Newport, for a
couple of months. Harricharan said the vehicle had about one-half tank of
gasoline left in its tank. The keys are still at Harricharan’s auto sales
business located at 104 Burke St., Newport. A witness told Harricharan he saw
two men in a blue Chevrolet Z71 pickup, with a dolly in tow, looking at the Geo
around the time it was reported missing. The estimated value of the stolen
Prism is $1,000.
Ford escorted elsewhere
Monday, Patrolman Ricky Parton filled out an incident
report made by Shirley A. Ellison, 52, 1614 Old Sevierville Highway, Newport,
concerning the theft of her 1991 Ford Escort. According to the report, Ellison
state her daughter drove her Escort to the Newport Auto Car Care Center Friday
and left the car unlocked with the keys hidden underneath a floor mat. When
Ellison went to check on the vehicle Monday, she noticed it wasn’t there.
Ellison spoke with employees at the service center, but no one reported having
seen the vehicle. Ellison stated there was rear bumper damage on the vehicle in
addition to a sticker reading, “support our troops.” The estimated value of the
vehicle is $1,000.
Jacket, flashlight stolen from Freightliner
Tuesday, Capt. Ronnie Dyke filled out an incident
report made by Joey R. Cape, 57, 2320 W. Francis Springs Road, Whitewell,
concerning the theft of his camouflage jacket, flashlight, assorted tools and
medication from the 2001 Freightliner he was driving while it was parked at the
Motel 6. According to the report, someone shattered the passenger-side
vent-window to gain entry to the rig. The estimated value of the stolen items
is $418.
Lost wallet reported
Monday, Patrolman Ricky Parton filled out an incident
report made by Julia Gibson, 17, 177 Thorn Road, Newport, concerning her
missing/lost wallet. According to report, Gibson stated she gave her wallet to
one of her friends who was going to the theater’s concessions stand. When her
friend brought the wallet back to her, Gibson reportedly placed it in her
purse. On Saturday, Gibson was reportedly going to school to take a test when
she noticed her wallet was missing. Gibson contacted her friends hoping they
would know where it was but none of them did. Gibson stated she has not been
able to find it since. The wallet contained $20 cash, her school ID,
driver’s-license, debit card and other miscellaneous items. The estimated value
of the missing wallet and its contents is $140
