Woman punched, shots fired, radio damaged

 

Thursday, Dep. Joseph Owings was dispatched to 5035 Grandview Way, Cosby on a call concerning a domestic dispute. Upon arrival, Owings spoke with Donna Faith Nash, 41, same address, who stated a relative fired shots through her door and broke the storm glass window also. Nash told Owings the relative admitted to having shot through the door and was responsible for the broken glass. Nash stated the relative’s 19-year-old white girlfriend entered her yard and began cursing her and threatened to do bodily harm to her. The girlfriend allegedly grabbed Nash and hit her in the face four or five times before throwing her on the ground where she continued the alleged assault. Nash was reportedly struck in the face several times by the 19-year-old’s fist. However, Nash told Owings she was able to get away, run into her house and call 911. Nash stated her relative’s girlfriend stood in her yard and threatened to kill her if she came outside. When Owings and Dep. Robert Thornton arrived, they spoke with the relative, John W. Southerland, 21, 5035 Grandview Way, Cosby, who admitted to having fired a gun seven times into the front door and storm glass. Southerland’s girlfriend reportedly went to a home next door. When Owings attempted to speak with her she ran, forcing Owings to pursue her for roughly 400 yards. Before Owings could catch the suspect he fell and scuffed both is arm and hand. In addition, Owings’ radio was destroyed. Southerland was arrested and taken into custody.

 

 

Death threats made toward dog

 

Wednesday, Dep. Joseph Owings was dispatched to the residence of Jessica R. Webb, 30, 4615 Tanglewood Way, Hartford, on a call concerning a domestic dispute. According to the report, Webb told Owings she was weeding her flowerbed and her mother was standing near a gas tank when a white male Hartford resident drove his vehicle down Tanlgewood Way, slammed the vehicles brakes and slung gravel all over her mother. The white male reportedly began cursing Webb’s mother and said she caused his dog’s death. The male then stated he was going to kill Webb’s mother’s dog, reportedly tied, before threatening to “burn her out.” Webb told Owings the male drove away but came back and threatened them again.

 

 

Wire, wood and chair stolen from residence

 

Thursday, Sgt. Tony Whitten filled out an offense report made by Berlin Stintson, 26, 460 Pleasant Way, Parrottsville, concerning the theft of several items from his home. According to the report, Stintson told Whitten someone shattered a window to gain entry to his residence and stole a chair, portion of a wood stove, wood, one sleeping bag plus a roll of electrical wire. The estimated value of the stolen items is $365.

 

 

Toyota strikes Ranger

 

Wednesday, Dep. Derrick Webb was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident at the junction of Highway 411 and west Highway 25/70. According to the report, both Shannon M. Samples, 21, 416 Highway 411, Newport, and Ronal W. Ball, 40, 135 Rays Chapel Road, Newport, were waiting to enter Highway 25/70 from Highway 411. Samples reportedly thought Ball had pulled his 1993 Ford Ranger onto Highway 25/70 and struck its rear with her 1998 Toyota.

 

 

Public intoxication charges

 

Thursday, Lt. Richard Caldwell arrested Brian Alecce, no age given, 125 Sheldon Chapel Road, Parrottsville, on charges of public intoxication.

 

Friday, Sgt. Armando Fontes arrested Sheena Slone, 22, 356 New Cave Church Road, Newport, on charges of public intoxication.

 

 

Contributing to the delinquency of a minor

 

Thursday, Lt. Richard Caldwell arrested Amber Blankenship, 19, 326 Leaf Way, Newport, on charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and possession of drug paraphernalia. According to the report, Blankenship was stopped on Leaf Way with drug paraphernalia in her possession and had a 15-year old passenger with her.

Thursday, Sgt. Armando Fontes was fueling his cruiser at the Mapco gas station when he noticed a Chevrolet Malibu parked in front of the building with music being played loudly. The driver of the Malibu, Christopher Kennedy, 32, 425 Haney Branch Road, Newport, exited the store and entered his vehicle. Fontes approached the driver after he noticed the man appeared to be intoxicated. Fontes could smell alcohol and asked Kennedy for his keys and driver’s license. Fontes then asked Kennedy if he had anything to drink to which he replied, “Yes, about six beers.” Fontes told Kennedy to stay in his vehicle while he returned to his cruiser to notify dispatch. Fontes pulled his patrol car behind Kennedy’s Malibu and the suspect exited his vehicle and asked if he could go to the bathroom. The man then fled on foot behind the station and through a field. Fontes pursued the suspect and repeatedly ordered him to stop. Kennedy ran roughly 120 yards before entering a thick tree line. Kennedy continued to flee before getting lodged in a briar patch. Kennedy ducked in an attempt to hide from Fontes and Newport Police. The briar patch was reportedly surrounded by law enforcement officers and Kennedy was taken into custody. Kennedy failed several field sobriety tests and refused to participate in either a breathlyzer or blood test. In addition, he was cut in several places from the briars. Fontes arrested Kennedy on charges of violation of the open container law, playing loud music, being a habitual motor vehicle offender, evading arrest, fifth offense DUI and third offense of driving on a revoked license.

 

 

Failure to appear, capias

 

Thursday, Dep. Derrick Webb arrested Timothy James Ogle, 35, 190 Old Cave Church Road, Newport, on charges of failure to appear and a capias from General Sessions Court.

 

Thursday, Dep. Derrick Webb arrested James Steven Campbell, 30, 364 Lincoln Ave., Newport, on charges of two counts of a capias, two counts of failure to appear and failure to pay child support.

Thursday, Dep. Hollis Emmons arrested Jennifer Parks, 21, 866 Blue Mill Road, Del Rio, on charges of violation of probation.

Avalon struck

 

Thursday, Sgt. Jerry Shelton filled out an incident report made by Crissy Ball Spann, 35, 1799 Mountain Ridge Road, Newport, concerning damage done to the driver’s-side door of her 2008 Toyota Avalon while it was parked at the Tanner Building. According to the report, Spann stated someone struck her vehicle and left the scene.

 

 

Beretta blasts Ram

 

Thursday, Patrolman Derek Wright was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident on Jaybird Street. According to the report, Melissa S. Norton, 34, 134 Park St., Newport, stated she was traveling south on Jaybird Street in a 1989 Chevrolet Beretta and looked away from the road before striking a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 owned by the Jefferson-Cocke County Utility District. The vehicle was parked at the time of the accident.

 

 

Cherokee cruised at Movie Gallery

 

Thursday, Patrolman Stephen Higginbotham was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident at the Movie Gallery parking lot. According to the report, Lorene Leatrice Carder, 34, 715 Eighth St., Newport, was backing her 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser from a parking spot when she struck a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee owned by Kimberly Nicole Mitchell, 24, 683 Musterfield Road, Newport. According to the report, there was not noticeable damage to the Jeep but the PT Cruiser was dented on the driver’s-side of the vehicle from the Cherokee’s bumper.
