Edith Estella Williams Costner

Edith Estella Williams Costner, age 100, of Newport, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 29, 2012, surrounded by her loving family.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in the Bat Harbor community, where she resided for over 50 years.

She was an honorary member of the Pennington Gap, Virginia Red Hat Society.

Edith was an ardent patriot with a keen interest in politics and worked assiduously for over four decades as a poll worker for the betterment of her county.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Joseph Monroe Costner, special grandchildren Tabitha and Jamin Costner, great-grandson Kade Costner, parents Charlie and Lillie Maloy Williams, brothers Mack, Fred, Stanley, Bob, and Jack Williams, and sisters Eutella and Marie Williams.

She is survived by her sons Victor (Edna) Costner of Dandridge, Steve (Gwen) Costner of Bybee, and James (Karen) Costner of Hawaii; daughters Donna (Bob) Muncy of Jonesville, Virginia and Judy (David) Hall of Newport; grandchildren Kenneth Lee Jenkins, Karen Cundiff, Darrin Costner, Jensy Costner, Misty Myers, Kellye Sweeten, and Bobby Muncy; great-grandchildren Whitney Trinkle, Kendra Cundiff, Kenzie Lee Jenkins, Drue and Jude Costner, Eden and Alden Muncy, Tyler and Ava Sweeten, Macy Johnson, and Jared Crumbley.

She is also survived by a very special great-niece Lillie Estes and several special nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

The family will receive friends at Costner-Maloy Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 2, 2012, with funeral services to follow at 8:00 p.m. The Reverends Steve Blanchard, Bill Murr, and Fred Cagle will be conducting the services.

Burial services will take place on Wednesday, October 3, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at Union Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Wayne Butler, Darrin Costner, Daryl Crum, Larry Hartsell, Tunney Moore, and Bobby Muncy. Honorary pallbearers will be R. T. Lawson, Danny Wester, Jack Shepherd, Marcus Mooneyham, and John F. Frazier.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wilsonville Baptist Church, 120 New Cave Church Road, Newport, TN 37821.
