Mark David Fabel Obituary
Published: Saturday, November 14, 2009

God honored Mark David Fabel, 62, formerly of Parrottsville, by calling him home on Veterans Day, November 11, 2009.

He proudly served for 23 years in the US Navy, retiring as an E-8.

He leaves behind his wife Ellen, Knoxville; son Rob Fabel, Connecticut; grandson Andres Fabel, Connecticut; mother Ada Magnuson, Michigan; sister and brother-in-law Chris and Carl Brown; brother and sister-in-law Daren and Nancy Fabel; granddaughter Becky; step-daughters Kelly, Valerie, and Shannon and numerous other step-children and step-grandchildren.

Mark had a great love of God, family, country, and community. He served for two years as chief of Long Creek Volunteer Fire Department. He was still an active firefighter until he had to take medical leave. He was presented the first lifetime honorary membership.

On behalf of Mark and herself, Ellen wants to give special thanks to Tennessee Cancer Specialists, especially Dr. Shumaker, his staff, the chemo nurses, everyone who made the difficult journey easier for Mark, to the Hospice staff for their caring help and compassion, to the many friends and family who, for the last three years, have just listened when we needed support. A very special thanks to "our earthly angels," Ricky and Rita Peters and James, who, without ever being asked, just showed up and kept Mark's beautiful mountain neat when he could no longer do so. Mark loved East Tennessee mountains and has now gone to rest on that highest mountain.

Even though Ellen already misses Mark's earthly presence, the spirit of the love he gave her will always remain.

No public services will be held.
