John Buter, age 92, passed away at his home in Cosby on
Friday, January 24, 2014.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Eleanor ‘Penny’
Buter, his parents Gerard and Maria Buter, and his brother Xander 'Chuck' Buter.
He is survived by his daughter, Bambi Buter, of Cosby, and
his son Keith (Kathy) Buter of Lucerne, CA. He is also survived by his sister
Mieke (Joe) Michael, brother Gerry (Marilyn) Buter, and many nieces, nephews, and
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the European
Theatre at both D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge.
He worked for many years as an engineer in California and
helped to put man on the moon.
When he retired, he moved to East Tennessee with Penny.
After several years, he helped Penny and Bambi to realize their dream when they
opened Celebrations and Penny’s Parlour in Cosby.
He retired again at age 90 and spent the last several years
traveling and relaxing with his daughter.
A Memorial Mass will be held at Church of the Good Shepherd,
Newport, at 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 31, 2014, preceded by visitation at 6:00
