Clifton Shelton, age 83, of Newport, entered peacefully
into his Heavenly home on Friday, May 10, 2013, surrounded by his family that
he loved so much.
He was a kind, loving and generous husband, father, and
papaw. He always had a beautiful smile for everyone he met. He was a faithful
member of First Free Will Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents James William
Shelton and Florence Ford Shelton, brothers Doyle Shelton and Walter Shelton,
sister Dorothy Dawson, son-in-law Jerry Jones, brothers-in-law Brady Raines,
Earl Clarke, Joe Edwards, Sidney Gregg Dawson, R. D. Cogburn, Charles Cogburn,
Kenneth Godfrey, Richard Foust, and Walt Medlin; sisters-in-law Helen Godfrey,
Alice Shelton, and Mae Cogburn; father-in-law Tip Cogburn, and mother-in-law
He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years Louise
Cogburn-Shelton, son Dale (Janet) Shelton, daughters Patricia Lovell and
Marilyn Jones; grandchildren Craig Gowan, Brooke (Mikey) White, Matthew
(Tearsa) Shelton, Randy Crum, Scott (Tracy) Jones, and Jeremy Jones;
great-grandchildren Brandon Brown, Shayne Watts, Madison Walker, Jayden and
Elijah White, Jayce Shelton, Deegan Crum, Tyler Barnes, and Tekowa Stanley;
sisters Ruby Raines of White Pine and Birdia Edwards of New Jersey; brothers
Herman (Margaret) Shelton of Newport and Vaughn Shelton of Parrottsville;
sisters-in-law Frankie (Howell) Wright of Newport, Sue Medlin of North
Carolina, Regina Shelton of Church Hill, Elaine Cogburn of Newport, and Ostia
Shelton of Iowa; several nieces and nephews; his furry companion Sam-bo;
special friend whom he loved like a son Gary Gentry; his church family, and a
host of several friends.
Funeral services will be held at 8:00 p.m. Sunday, May
12, 2013, in Manes Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jeff Davis officiating.
Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 13, 2013,
in Union Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Sunday at Manes Funeral Home prior to the funeral services.
