Carl L. Rice, age 67, of Newport, went to Heaven on Tuesday afternoon, February 19, 2013, at the residence surrounded by his loving family.

He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother Sanky and Dollie Thomas.

He is survived by his devoted wife Donna Askew Rice of Newport; son Carl Rice, Jr. (Linda Banks) of Newport; daughters Dollie (Freddie) Holt of Newport and Darlene (Johnny) Hill of Bybee; mother-in-law Dovie Askew of Newport; sisters Shelby Jean Lindsey of Limestone and Wanda Pirkle of Knoxville; grandchildren Chelsea Evans, Kelsea Evans, Jacob Hill, Jeremiah Hill, Jordan Holt, and Isaac Price; also several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service with the family will be held at a later time. The family request that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to offset medical expenses.
