Shirley Jean Wieck Bakker, age 83, of Newport, passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2013.

Shirley was born January 10, 1930, in Michigan, moved to Mississippi in the early 1940s, where she lived and reared her family. She moved to Tennessee in 1987 when she fell in love with the Smoky Mountains.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Adolph 'Bob' Bakker; sons Chris Alan Bakker and Mark Bakker; parents Lyle and Rose Wieck; father-in-law and mother-in-law John and Marie Bakker; brother Glen Dale Wieck; sister Joyce O'Dell; nephews Ernest and Mitchel Wieck and Randy Shoemaker; and brothers-in-law John Bakker, Lee O'Dell, and Donald Carron.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Terry and Katie Bakker; her daughter and son-in-law Linda and Dan Netherland; grandchildren Derek and Andrea Bakker, Chad and Lindsey Netherland, Heidi and Scott Murphy, April Mallette, Damon and Amber Patrick, Kristil and Chris Allen, Heather and Johnathon Thomas, and Cameron Netherland; great-grandchildren Chelsea Mallette, Calton Bakker, Tyler Mallette, Lou Lou Bakker, Jaden Mallette, Myle Harrell, Austin Marshall, Hailey Murphy, Madison Allen, Lily Allen, Dani Netherland, A. J. Netherland, Justin Patrick, Haydn Patrick, Jacob Patrick, Addison Thomas, and Caden Thomas; and other family and friends.

The family would like to say a very special 'Thank you' to her caregiver, Kendra Broyhill, and Amedysis Home Health.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, February 23, 2013, at Jenkins Chapel Church.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 23, 2013, in the Bryant Cemetery, Lower Bogard Road, Newport, TN.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to help with funeral expenses.
