Homer Marvin Foster, 88, of Hot Springs, North Carolina,
passed away Monday, February 11, 2013, at his home.
Mr. Foster was born on September 11, 1924 in Bluff,
Madison County, NC. He was
the son of Dewey Franklin and Reva Raney Foster.
Mr. Foster lived in the Bluff region of Madison County
until he graduated from Spring Creek High School in 1943. He enlisted in the Naval Air Corps and
served honorably in World War II until June 1946.
He was named to the National Registers Who's Who in
executives and Professionals
Mr. Foster married Frances Silvers of Spring Creek
community and operated a small farm until 1953 when he began a career with
Burlington Industries. Mr. Foster attended Clemson University and Georgia Tech
and received a technical degree in textile technology while working for
Burlington Industries at various locations in Virginia and North Carolina.
After retirement from Burlington Industries, Mr. Foster
operated Foster Auto Sales in Morristown, Tennessee, for 25 years and was
involved with various business ventures during this time. Mr. Foster was very active and was an
avid golfer, outdoorsman, gardener and NASCAR fan.
Mr. Foster is survived by his sister, Kathleen Elswick;
seven children, Vergil Foster of Hot Springs, Jerry Foster of Gastonia, N.C., Larry Foster of Williamsburg, VA, Karen Foster Hodges of Hendersonville, N.C., Sharon Foster Rose of South Boston, VA,
Sara Foster Navarrone of El Paso, Texas and Logan Foster of Hot Springs, NC; fifteen grandchildren and nine
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday,
February 15, 2013, in the chapel of Madison Funeral Home with Reverend Terry
Ailor officiating. Mars Hill VFW Post 5483 will conduct military rites. Burial
will follow in Fairview United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12-2 p.m. Friday
prior to the service at the funeral home.
