Reva Bryant Butler passed Saturday, January 26, 2013, at
her home in Bogard.
She was a faithful member of Pleasant Valley United
Methodist Church where she attended as long as she was physically able and
supported in her prayers when not in attendance.
"Mrs. Reva," as she was known to the
congregation, also was one of the last members of Jenkins Chapel United
Methodist Church until its closure. A devoted Christian, she attended a weekly
Bible study group led by her good friend and neighbor, Beulah Wilson.
Reva was well-known in the Bogard community for her work
and willingness to help her neighbors with whatever task was at hand, be it
hogs and breaking beans. She especially loved to work outside in her bountiful
vegetable and beautiful flower gardens and inside freezing her bounty and
quilting for the family. On October 7, 2012, she enjoyed her 90th birthday
celebration surrounded by more than 100 family members and friends.
Reva was preceded in death by her husband Eugene Butler,
son Donnie Butler, grandson Keith Butler, mother Addie Bryant, and son-in-law
Steve Foster.
She is survived by her loving family and caregivers:
daughters Carol Slack, Sandra Foster, and Sharon Balch; son Wesley and Hennie
Butler; daughter-in-law Nedra Butler; sister Scottie Dunn; grandchildren Donna
(Tim) Davis, Kim Hixson, Yvette (Scott) Allen, Susie (Chris) Glenn, Ben Balch,
and Jessica Balch; nine great-grandchildren and seven
great-great-grandchildren. She will also be missed by many nieces and nephews,
friends and neighbors, especially her church family and the ladies of her Bible
study group.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks
to the employees of Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice for the excellent
and loving care given to her, especially by Elena O'Bryon and Danise Howard.
Many thanks also go to Sue Mantooth for her caregiving and to Marjorie Webb for
her caring visits, food, and prayers during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made
in memory of Reva Butler to the Jenkins Chapel Church Cemetery Fund, Cosby
Library Building Fund, or Holston Home for Children.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday,
January 29, 2013, at the Brown Funeral Home Chapel with a visitation from
5:00-7:00 p.m. preceding the funeral. Burial will occur at 10:00 a.m. on
Wednesday, January 30, 2013, in the Jenkins Chapel Cemetery.
