Sherman Amos Sperry, age 86, of Newport, passed away Friday, January 11, 2013, at James H. Quillen Veterans Medical Center.

He was a World War II United States Navy veteran and attended West End Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother Amos and Pearl Mitchell Sperry and son Edward Sperry.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years Betty Sperry, children Kay Odom of Kentucky, Amos R. Sperry of Alabama, and Sylvia Hartman of Georgia and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 14, 2013, at Manes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Archie Norman, Rev. Jack Reiss, and Rev. Rick Clevenger officiating. Burial followed in Union Cemetery.

The family received friends from 12:00-2:00 p.m. Monday prior to the funeral services.
