Anne Margaret Nemanik Bettis, 99, of Dandridge, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at Dosher Nursing Center, in Southport, N.C. where she resided for the past five years.  

Anne was born on July 20, 1913, in Butte, Montana, to Joseph Nemanik and Mary Stefanich Nemanik.  When she was young, she moved to Chicago, Illinois, where she lived until her marriage to John Eugene Bettis of Dandridge, Tennessee.  She subsequently lived in Washington, D.C.; Dandridge, Tennessee; Owings, Maryland with her daughter Mary Jo and family, and finally Southport, North Carolina.

While living in the Chicago area, Anne attended college and worked for the telephone company during World War II, first as a telephone operator, and then as a Supervisor. 

After her marriage to John Bettis in 1943, they moved to the Washington, D.C. area where they raised their five children.   

Anne is survived by her daughter, Denise Bettis Lodwick, husband Hugh and grandsons Jonathan Lodwick, wife Kelly Sutherland; Kenneth Lodwick, fiancée Denise Layman all of Dandridge, TN; daughter Wileva Bettis Johnston, husband Michael of Hollidaysburg, PA and grandchildren Michael Johnston, Jr., wife Karrol; Shellie Anne Johnston; Kevin Johnston, wife Antuanette;  and Christopher Johnston, wife Melissa; son, John Eugene Bettis, Jr., wife Larue Jones of Columbia, SC; grandsons John Eugene Bettis, III, wife Laura; and Stephen Bettis, wife Heather; daughter Melanie Bettis Roley, husband, Tom of Southport, NC, and granddaughter Amanda Anne Arwood; daughter Mary Jo Bettis LaBriola, husband, Anthony of Owings, MD, grandsons, Nicholas LaBriola and Zachary LaBriola; and great-grandchildren Timothy Johnston; Grace Johnston, Camila Johnston; Blake Bettis; nieces Patricia Winkleman, Rolling Meadows, IL; Kim Homeyer, Huntley, IL; Diane Nemanik Ford, Confer, CO; nephew Richard Nemanik, Confer, CO; and great-great granddaughter Adalynn McDaniel, Morristown, TN. 

In addition to her late husband, Anne was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Mary Nemanik, Chicago, IL; brother, Joseph P. Nemanik, Glenview, IL; sister Mary Nemanik Gieseke, Huntley, IL; niece Mary Lee Lukasik, Schaumburg, IL; nephew Robert Nemanik, Margate, FL; great-granddaughter Kirstan Lodwick McDaniel, Morristown, TN; and dear friends Marie Snellings, Orlando, FL and Thelma LaBriola, Brandywine, MD.

A private family memorial service will be held at the Hopewell Presbyterian Church in Dandridge, Tennessee, at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 19, 2013.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dosher Nursing Center, attn.
